You can also declare “idle” as your ARO which does not drop market state, but can drop you out of Hidden Deployment.

A Warning! Or Alert ARO from another model can also drop you out of Hidden deploy but keep you in market state.

Thanks @MikeTheScrivener those are excellent writeups.

It's great seeing this kind of detailed feedback on Varuna.

While those aren't the kind of lists I'd run personally, you clearly get a lot out of them yourself. Great work!

thanks! I'd be interested to know how you would approach it – bear in mind that this tournament was Limited Insertion, which I now realize I neglected to mention haha

    So VIRD ay,

Well heres a rundown of my first 4 games with them where I ended up taking them to a tournie and was doing really well with them.

Missions for the tournie was Frontline, Decapitation and Acquisition. the 1st game I used VIRD for was a practice game of acquisition that was a bloodbath in VIRDs favour vs OSS, the Tournie games I played to a Draw against Combined army running an Avatar list, a Major win in Decap Vs IA and a minor Loss at top table Vs another OSS player and while I didnt win the tournie Im very happy with how VIRD performed as a whole. Particularly as all 4 games were against some of the top players I get to play against.

Id have had a serious shot at winning the tournament as well but I got cute in Acquisition using my Xenotech and HVT to block off the Coffin (it had a terrain building blocking half the coffin. Unfortunately I didnt leave enough room for the cutter and so only had the space to stick a machinist on the coffin, who got killed :( meant my opponent got the game through grabbing the secondary objectives for a win by 2 pts.

Thoughts on the games are bellow, Im not sharing my lists just yet as I am still tweaking them and playing them a little close to my chest, but this is what ive been thinking after actual games.

Im absolutely in love with the Kamau+Cuter+Zulu Combo to really allow you to solidly put the opponent in a serious bind and its a rare list that has the tools that can deal with both of them at the same time, leaving the other to utterly dominate the board..

Im going to do some minor tweaking of the lists, dropping the Machinists Palbot in favour of upgrading a Mkmn rifle zulu to a second Jammer, because the Triangulated Asspistol and the Combi rifle I feel allow that profile to fill the same roll if required, and it offers a little more redundancy in terms of setting up no-go zones on the table.

Im also gonna drop a paramedic fusilier in my second list to just a plain combi, this lets me get a palbot for the doc just to give a little better coverage with him in a list that focuses more on squishy units.

Overall Im really happy with how VIRD is shaking things up and the options this update has given 3 out of the 4 PanO sectorials as a whole. its honestly solved every issue I have had with the design of the faction. Maybe not in the way I expected to solve it, given its maintained the core design of being a shooting faction that specialises in objectives second. but its given us the tools to be the top dog in the shooting game by far

3 more games with VIRD next to a pool for the thematic feel and one of the guys working the grill.
Biotecvoro, Decapitation and Firefight, Limited Insertion, no SoF.

    Biotecvoro Vs Corregidor:
    Table and deploy on red
    My list:
    Whatever biotech
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    [IMG]10 [IMG]1
KAMAU (Multispectral Visor L2) MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 32)
PATSY GARNETT Submachine Gun, Nimbus Plus Grenades, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 37)
ORC (Varuna Div.) Lieutenant (Multiterrain: Aquatic/Jungle, Stealth) HMG / Pistol, Knife. (2 | 45)
KAMAU Heavy Rocket Launcher, Submachine Gun / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 23)
BIPANDRA Combi Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 23)
    FUSILIER Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10)
CROC MAN (Minelayer) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 31)
CROC MAN (Forward Observer, Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 32)
ZULU-COBRA Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Breaker Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 28)
KNIGHT OF MONTESA Paramedic (MediKit) Boarding Shotgun, Chain-colt / Pistol, DA CC Weapon. (0 | 39)

    5.5 SWC | 300 Points

    Open in Infinity Army

My oponent: Double Gecko, Link of Wildcats, McDogy, Lunkod rem and a Tomcat.

Took the list build like a kind of Highly Classify with order complications. The idea was to go second and deploy the sniper somewhere high with as much view possible giving the 1 meter between dz´s and then reform the link and leave him there.

The short version is that the sniper dominated the table and he had to search for paths out of LOF, this was order expensive and crowded all his units in a big blob in the middle. He try to burn the link first with the Tomcat but a Crocman hit him on landing. With so many templates it was a bloodbath. MVP is between the Sniper and the Montesa, that dude can get some great angles for the BSG,
    10-0

    Decapitation vs Morats
Table and deploy on blue. (it doesnt look on the picture but there are 4 two store buildings and the containers are all LOS blocking high)
    My list:
    Cualquiera Commando
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

ORC (Varuna Div.) Lieutenant (Multiterrain: Aquatic/Jungle, Stealth) HMG / Pistol, Knife. (2 | 45)
PATSY GARNETT Submachine Gun, Nimbus Plus Grenades, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 37)
KAMAU (Multispectral Visor L2) MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 32)

CROC MAN (Minelayer) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 31)
CROC MAN (Minelayer) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 31)
    ZULU-COBRA (Sensor) Combi Rifle, Jammer / Assault Pistol, Knife. (0 | 29)
    ECHO-BRAVO Red Fury / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 25)

    6 SWC | 294 Points

    Open in Infinity Army

My oponent: Suryat link, Kornak, Zerat HD, Q-drone plasma and Dr.Worm.
Side note, he HATES my Cutter with a vengeance and assumes it will be there always.

The idea of the list was that if i go second i can swamp the enemy with the mines to waste his orders and then counter with the crocman from flanks or even behind.

Won initiative and choose to go first.
Deployed my link around the tower to my left with the Sniper and Bipandra on top, 2 Crocman over the buildings on the flanks with the mines on ground level and another one on the center, all 3 on token to get the order.
He deploy his team behind the building to the left and the rest under cover, covering lanes of their range really good.

The sniper and Bipandra crossed path prone and then the Kamau took his HRL, the EB deploy on my right, and started slicing the pie from the grey building with the RedFury.
    10-0

    Firefight Vs Invisible Army
    Deploy on green
    Same list as Decapitation

My oponent: Daoyni with HD, 2 TA Zuyong with a MSV2 Haidao, panguling lsg and a SonBae with Smart ML (they can link them) and 4 BSG LiuXing.

He won initiative and instantly both know it is over.
I dont care what references it brings, anyone in this forum complaining, crying, screaming that the LiuXing is not good doesn't know hot to play this game, if anything it is OP as hell. Maybe my view is somewhat skew because of all the crits, but for real that thing is a spawn from hell.
    So back to the game.
Deploy as best as i could trying to use the mines to dissuade and to get some angles an landing with the croc. End of my turn his guy decimated my link loosing only one and a wound each. Take 2 out with Crocman, Bring down the EB and use the ZC order to go against the Pangulin with him out of cover so to take down the Link........ he crits, i die a little inside. Bring out my last crocman to go against the Son Bae in a last ditch effort......... he crits, i dont get why i was born anyway.
    0-10
On the next table something similar was happening. Funny thing, the 2 IA players got to play Decapitation together with not identical but similar list.

    @Make PanO Great Again :P
Are your tables always so similar? If this is the case, I can understand why some of you say things they are saying.

They have similar density and try to have some stuff that lets you not start out of cover if you dont want to, but they are not similar outside of that.
Red was cuted in the midle by a huge building and was more packed (my sniper had only a silver to look to one side)
Blue had lot of debri and one stred buildings in the middle and the big ones all around.
Green was a mess of 2 and 3 stored buildings that cut it all.
The last one i didn´t play.

Dude, there is nothing the table can give you to stop this, with that list on firefight they land on 18s, there is no covering the approach because the can pop anywhere that is not covered or just around the building and then greet you with the BSG, or over a building, they can even kamikaze one to make that opening.
The table wont help you, and variance between them neither

Well, still similar to me. In France, in the same tournament, you could play on this :

This : (infinite high for the walls of the buildings and black parts can't have trooper or equipment on it)

    And one of those :

With terrain and visibility rules for some of them, of course. So, the best troops differ a lot between tables and min-maxed lists might not always tend to be the best for all of them. Super-Jump can be very effective or useless (there is another table full of infinite hight walls) so all troops can have their moment and all weapons can shine at some point.

I think tables create meta more than anything and I now understand why some of you cry about the spitfire on knights while I love having some in one of my lists just for those tables that say your Sniper rifles and HMG are near to useless compared to Multi rifles and Spitfires.

I get what you are saying, but there is no difference for the LiuXing in any of the tables that you showed, he will always finish in optimal range of +6.
It´s not for every mission, its not the be all end all unit, but in cases like Firefight with the +3 to land be prepared to face this kind of list and know that even if you get to choose the side with advantages (that i see you guys like to do much more than we do) this duds dont care.

Oh! I'm all with you about how powerful Liu Xing is. I'm one of those that is convinced that, unlike a lot of things our forum ghosts say, Liu Xing is frightening as hell if you don't come with nearly full HIs lists. The worst is on Firefight where your opponent don't have to take an EVO or Hacker to grant them +3 to their jump. I was the recieving end of Mirage-5 and it was already deadly so, I know and understand your pain.

Maybe play with different levels so one Liu Xing can only hit one guy at a time and kill him with your AROs. You'll have a sad first turn then but at least, you had killed those Assault Squad Space Marine.

I did, my Sniper was on the roof and the rest where down spaced out.... he just blasted the one on top, tanked the combis of the Fusi and nano of bipandra on the way down, blasted with the guy uptop to the ones down..... a fucking nightmare
It´s worst, you can combine the +3 from the hacking with the +3 from the scenario with their 13 phy, and eve get the hacking one with the Lt. order

lets just talk about VIRD, our own toys worked just great, this last case is an extreme situation that doesn't help measuring its tools

I think that we could talk about how counter LX in VIRD. Since squeeshy units tend to be smashed by LX, maybe a massive armoured list could be able to deal with it? What do you think? Double Squalo? Full core of ORCs?
