    The Invincible Army

They have finally arrived and they are glorious. I think everyone had some worries about how an all or mostly HI list could work but CB has succeeded in making a flexible roster of troops to form the invincible army and provided some great new units for vanilla too.

One thing I feel CB has done really well with the IA is make them feel like a army that works with effective organisation and extensive training. they feel elite due to all the wildcards, tactical awareness and NCO options flying around. Even the Zhanshi feel like the belong. I see them as there to help deal with any hackers that creep through the formidable anti hacking tools of the IA.

    Lets take a look.

First, let’s look at the Invincible army and its troops individually greater moving onto how they can work together.

    The new units.

    Daoying

First up we have the Daoying operative control unit.

These guys stand out for a few reasons, firstly they are MI. A troop type that has been rare in Yu Jing as a whole and with the current ITS rules can take advantage of the special forward deployment rule.

Secondly, they are cheap. Costing just 21 points for the basic boarding shotgun version makes it the cheapest camo unit in Yu Jing.

The multi sniper option is more expensive but has great utility. Being able to position in a snipers nest and place a mine covering possible approaches by camo of infiltrating units as well as having Camo and a reasonable 12 BS makes it one of the best ARO snipers in Yu Jing.

The hacker option is nice. Providing a WIP 14 specialist. The only downside is the 4-2 movement, but this is standard for MI.

But where the Daoying really shines is the Lt options, all of which are Lt Lv2 and so provide 2 Lt orders a turn. This can synergise with the NCO options in the army, or be used by the Daoying itself.

I am most drawn to the Lt Hacker as this allows you to buff a remote and re-camo without using a single order from the pool. Or you could do controlled jump to help your AD trooper before switching to support ware programs.

Overall this seems like an auto-include as your Lt. This is doubly so if you plan on using remotes like the Rui shi.

    Haidao

They are the unruly troublemakers of the Yu Jing forces but they are respected for coming in and getting the job done.

They have a decent stat line with 13 in both BS and WIP. This makes both their offensive options and specialist option worth consideration.

With AVA 3 and the ability to join any link in the army makes them a vital part of IA.

    The killer hacker profile.

They offer a cheap 26 point killer hacker that on its own appears like nothing special with 0 BTS. But when combined in a link containing a tinbot they become a serious threat to any hacker they come across.

I see them being a good option in any Zuyong team that intends to take objectives and move up the field. I will most likely run then in a Harris team that will go up the midfield while being covered by my core link as the objective grabbing specialist.

    The MSV2 multi sniper profile

Being able to have a BS13 MSV2 sniper in a link is just great defence, even without smoke in IA.

If you include both of these options in a list, thanks to the wildcard rule you can decide which link each one will go in at the start of a game, offering fantastic flexibility.

There are other options too. Like the 29 point chain of command option. That’s just 2 points more than a basic Zuyong so unlike the Pheasant agent they are easy to find a place for.

The engineer could also be a good option of your running a TAG or a lot of REMs

The down side of not having 2 full wounds is present, but after taking a hit you can still chose to drop behind cover and wait for some healing if you have a doctor.

    The Liu Xing

He may look basic but never underestimate the usefulness of having 2 wounds on a AD troop. The multi rifle strikes me as the best option. It is a decent weapon that can cause a dent in an enemies back line or take and objective from under the nose of your opponent.

Explode level X seems like an optional bonus, not a unit focus. I can see a use for it if your feeling pinned by a sniper on a roof. You can land behind it and force a change face dodge. You might kill it outright, and if not your now in the perfect place to kill it.

Going directly to dead after the second wound seems fine to me as it is more likely to stop your opponent getting an easy objective from its unconscious body, than you are likely to get a doctor to it from across the table.

I don’t think I would use one every game, but that’s because there is loads of great stuff to use in IA and not because the Liu Xing is bad.

    The Zuyong Invincibles

There are too many options here to go through them all but they are a solid option for a core link.

You can plan for one that can move in and take objectives making use of the Tin bot zuyong, two HMG tactical awareness Zuyong a killer hacking Haidao and Tai Sheng (the new character) for 177 points. If you are using a Daoying Lt this 5 man link has access to 4 extra orders a turn. That’s a lot bang for your buck.

The HMG on a HI frame with tactical awareness are a steal at 1.5 SWC and 38 points.

Defensive links are also a solid option, with access to Missile launchers and a Heavy rocket launcher via the shang Ji wild card. Not to mention the Haidao MSV2 option.

    Tai Sheng Zuyong Invincibles NCO

With the ability to use the Lt orders within a link, Tai is a great choice for any link planning on advancing on objectives as she is also a forward observer. The Mk 12 and breaker tinbot options are good and which one is best will come down to the rest of the links composition. 45 points is indeed a big investment, but very flexible.

It feels great to have another named character in Yu Jing.

    Shang Ji

The shang Ji is mostly the same as ever but it has some nice new profiles that include the tactical awareness skill. The spitfire tactical awareness option seems a good choice for a Harris that wants to push up the field.

I am also a big fan of the Heavy Rocket launcher and am keen to use one in my lists. I feel it can be hard to fit into a list with a zuyong core but it works well with a Zhanshi link alongside the Haidao MSV sniper.

While not my play stile, the assault hacking option is a solid specialist too.

    Yan Huo invincible

Most Yu Jing players are aware of these BS 14, ARM 5 heavy weapon toting beasts, but the option to have dual missile launcher or multi HMG profile in a Harris link is something new amd exciting.

They can Harris with a Zuyong with Tinbot so have some good protection against hackers. The wild card units can also join them so you can make a link including one of them for 99 or 101 points at there cheapest.

I am looking forward to trying out a burst 3 Missile Launcher some time soon.

SWC is going to be the only barrier with these guys, but being SWC staved has always been a challenge of list building.

    Hac Tao.

Nothing seems to have changed. He is expensive but very good at both long range fire power or objective grabbing with the help of TO camo and a solid 14 in WIP and BS. He can fit into 10 man lists, but you will have to work around him.

    Mowang

The Mowang is a S5 HI in the same vain as the Kriza for the nomads and the Al Fasid for Haqqislam. But one massive advantage it has over others of its kind is its duo option along side the wild card options in IA.

Suddenly this hard hitter can now advance up the field with a Haidao or Shang Ji specialist in tow, making it a much more efficient playing the mission not just shooting things well.

Couple this with the NCO rule that allows it to use the Lt orders (of which you will most likely have 2) and you have all the tools you need to nab those mid field objectives.

They also have a nice range of weapon options from the 0 SWC multi rifle, 1 SWC red fury and a 2 SWC spitfire. All of the profiles also have a second disposable weapon for a few long range AROs or shots.

    Mimetism also doesn't hurt.

    Guilia

It’s our TAG. Nice to have one for the missions that need them. And being able to support it with a Zanshi core link with shang Ji and haidao will help it out over vanilla.

    Hulang shocktroopers

A massive set of tools on these guys.

Mimetism, MAL3, shock immunity NWI, forward deployment L2, 22 CC, E/M grenades, Monofilament CC weapon and specialist operative. They may be 41 to 44 points, but they have all the tools needed to clear the mid field, E/M a TAG or HI or simply cut them down if he gets close.

Stealth from MA will make them hard to hack in active.

They will take some skill to use but they look like a lot of fun.

    Zhencha

Camo, infiltration and climbing plus make them fantastic at getting to objectives. Stealth from camouflage makes the able to move about freely in active and as long as you re-camo you can stay relatively safe during reactive.

The 34 point option with submachine gun, D.E.P and mines seems to be the best around option.

Just like the Hulang, the Zhencha will take some tight play to get right, but it has the tools to work very well despite its hacking vulnerability.

    Yaopu Pangguling

Alongside the normal options, the new FTO repeater option with light shotgun for 13 points is yet another wildcard unit for links and can save some much needed points.

    The other stuff.

Along side all the new options the IA also has access to the Mech engineer and Yisheng Doctor. Unlike the ISS sophotect they are easy to fit into a list and a Dr alongside all those HI is a powerful tool that is worth the investment as well as a few Yaozao.

All the usual remotes are also available. The Rui shi never fails to be a good attack piece but without smoke I can see the Lu Duan seeing some more table time.

Zhanshi are a core option so you could field a cheap core with all the fun solo units.

What does this all mean for vanilla?

Well the Lt L2 option is in vanilla as well as the NCO and combat awareness profiles, so our vanilla lists can also benefit from extra orders.

The Haidao will be able to use Smoke with his MSV2

We also have access to more D charges. An extra 4 profiles to be exact.

    Some lists

    Zhanshi core build.

In this list the Zhanshi core with Haidao MSV2 MSR and Shang Ji HRL team up with a Zhanshi ML to provide a fire base to cover Tai Sheng's Harris as the move up the field to secure objectives, or occupy scoring zones. The Zhensha is in the midfield to slow down the enemy or take objectives on the opposite side to Tai Sheng.

Zuyong Core plus Mowang duo Build

This list is designed to have a strong and hard to eliminate core team. they have good fire power and the ML provides a good ARO piece. in this list Tai Sheng takes the tinbot option to save SWC on hacker protection.

The Mowang and Haidao killer hacker work as a Duo to move up the field.

The Dr has two YaoZao because with so many full HI having maximum coverage will be a boon.

    nice summary.

You may also consider the option of playign double haris of HI ( the normal and one fake core) to get points to go full HI with the heavy solo models like the hac tao. Also even is the guijia isn't buffed for IA i see it being more usfull with all the heavy support.

And for Tai, without field try ( just 48 hours form realese) i can be sure but i see she as a very usfull porfile in vanilla to, having the heavy carry with additional orders pl specialist in the same model.

I like how with IA we now have THREE styles of running single group lists in Vanilla now:

    Sunny T lists.
    Daoying LT2 + NCO lists.
And simply single group lists that use neither.

Not to forget to mention TacAware Zuyongs and Shang Jis also aiding in expanding the flexibility of such a style of play.

And I REALLY like to play single group lists.
So this is a win for me!

To extrapolate on what I wanted to say in my previous post, I'll just shove some random single group lists I managed to come up with throughout the day.

This list I just wanted to find a way to incorporate the Hai Dao into a rather standard Sun Tze + Guijia list. The Hai Dao Engineer does cost 13 points more than a Mech-Engineer, so his usefulness in a list where you only really have one main expected repair target could be questionable, but then again, those 13 extra points do net you a unit that can feasibly do something else besides repairs...

Also, I picked the Lu Duan here over the Rui Shi since I feel that the Lu Duan fits with the Pangos ''Buff ARO'' supportware better, but there's enough SWC and points leftover that you could also have a bog standard Rui Shi + Shaolin combo run up one flank of the table.

Here I simply wanted to shove in as many new profiles alongside Sunny T into a list as possible.
Again, there's a Hai Dao Engineer there since between 4 other HI that might need to Engineering work done, I supposed it'd fit nicely in there.
Tossed in a Libertos in there, which, honestly, looks to me as a rather superb way to spend 10 leftover points, especially as it is a 0 SWC Minelayer. Guilang and a Ninja in the midfield as is rather common, accompanied by, what in my opinion, is the better Hulang profile ( I just thing having him having two SMGs adds more close-ranged gunfight variety than the DTW and Combi Rifle could grant, but then again, a DTW on a forward deploying model can cause havoc on an overextending link team... ) to just round out that midfield.
Alongside a Liu Xing Hacker ( I've had good times using the Tiger AHD, so I see some potential in the Liu Xing AHD personally. ).
Then just tossing in some Celestial Guard FOs for defense ( The new FTO Pangos might also be valid replacements? ) and one of the new Zuyong profiles, which are rather rapidly overcoming non-LT Automedikit Zuyongs in my eyes.

A Hai Dao and his Su-Jian

And seeing as we got a new Engineer that can make better use of being able to be kind of in two places at one time beyond laying prone behind an ARO bot and having the helper bot fix other things...
Why not make a list where he'd actually have two things to go and fix up every once in a while? He himself runs after the Guijia, and the little robot can make some meager attempt at catching the Su-Jian.
Also added the Daoying Level 2 Lieutenant Hacker there for safe and easy supportware/exorcisms ( Also kinda considering calling Daoying Lt LI lists a different kind of list opposed to Daoying Lt NCO lists, as both use different profiles of theirs... so IA gave us two extra ways of playing single combat groups! ).
Usual batch of defensive Flash Pulses and mobile repeaters for Possession cancelling are also present.

Honestly... really liking all the options this brought into vanilla Yu Jing, which was my main concern for IAs release:
Didn't have many doubts about it's validity as a sectorial, only hoped it'd add good variety to vanilla.
    And add variety it has.

I agree with the OP's assessments. Thus far, list building seems to be an exercise in deciding what degree of flexibility and efficiency you need for a given mission. The plethora of options within units, and flexibility in fire team builds generate a lot of play options, even while staying in the Limited Insertion format. This looks to be a very fun army to play.

I haven't gotten a chance to try it yet, but don't forget about a Daoying Lt2 + Hac Tao list as a sort of jury-rigged NCO. Generate the 2 Lt. Orders at the start of your turn, then let the Hac run wild with them for a big play. Obviously not as versatile or reliable as a regular NCO, but that's likely a fair price to pay to get even more extra orders on a Hac Tao.

Honestly, between the time I wrote that an now, it has dawned on me...
You could prolly split Daoying lists into two categories based on whether you took the Sniper/Hacker or the regular BSG one.
Since both run really differently from one another.
The former makes use of the Daoyings 2 orders for making certain actions more convenient: supportware and taking opportunistic potshots/dropping a mine and then going back into camo.
While the latter gives a Mowang and/or Tai Sheng some order energy bars-

I see absolutely no reason not to use both in the same IA list. The hacker as the Lt. and the Minelayer MSR on overwatch (given that of the two it is more exposed/vulnerable).

Personally, I'm less partial to full five-man offensive link teams (I find them cumbersome to safely move up the board), so I'm more inclined to using the combination of a Haris team and a 3-man core team to probe the opponent's position from different vectors. Even though all that can be pretty expensive in IA, it still leaves enough points to throw in one of the new toys to mess around with (other versions of this list include a Zencha and a backline cheerleader, or even a Liu Xing if you're saucy).

Are you able to use XO this way? My understanding was that the XO becomes the Lt, no the Lt level 2.

To answer that you have to ask whether Lt Order is ever generated or not.

Lt2 generates 2 LT orders. Why shouldn't the Hac Tao be able to use those orders when the Hac Tao has assumed command?

Neither XO nor CoC has been updated to properly reflect which level of LT they become, however...

Good point. Yes, I'd say that XO could probably have a clause that he is now free to use the Lt order. Hmm. It looks like I read too much into that.

That opens up all kinds of fun Hac Tao work.

    From the XO page:

    EXECUTIVE ORDER AUTOMATIC SKILL
    Obligatory, Private Information.
    REQUIREMENTS
    • This Special Skill activates only when the user deploys on the game table.
    EFFECTS

That part about "stripping the former Lt. of his rank" makes me giggle with anticipation. What if we actually get a Lt2 Hac Tao? Sounds really fun.
