Nah, worst possible is an UNC 2 REM that takes 1STR enters the Dead state and can't be repaired. It's "sum the Damage vs 1STR repaired".
"Unless you don't get hir or make your arm rolls, in which case follow the rules as written." It's a system, at least.
I love Infinity, but man are there some weird issues with the way the rules are written. Ultimately, as with virtually all of these weird rules issues in Infinity, this is an edge case scenario that isn't likely to come up in actual gameplay. So it isn't a big deal. But why in the world CB decided to 'break' the basic game rules in this way is beyond me. A special skill that creates a second "level" of a state, but does not change the name, the marker, or the cancelation clause of the state. In practice, the rule works fine, we all know what it is supposed to represent. But there are any number of ways to implement that kind of effect more cleanly. Heck, even the simple wording "Unlike most Troopers, Troopers with G: Remote Presence in the Unconscious state do not fall below 0 STR until two STR points are lost. To represent that the Trooper has lost 1 STR while Unconscious, place a second Unconscious marker on the Trooper."
But that doesn’t change the issue that caused this to begin with: The model is at double unconscious, takes a Wound and an engineer succeeds. Is it an “double unconscious” or “single unconscious”? Because Engineer is defined as BOTH repairs one damage AND cancels both Unconscious and “double Unconscious”, instead of creating general rules that say something like: 1. Spell out that gaining and losing Wounds during the same order cancel each other out. 2. For anyone that has “double Unconscious”, regaining a Wound (that isn’t cancelled out) cancels “double Unconscious” so the trooper has 1 Str/Wound. Same thing for “Unconscious”. Because getting shot while being doctored, or regenerating while getting shot, or whatever the vampire life leech thing is called while getting attacked, all run into this same sort of problem. What I wouldn’t do for an N3.1.
Yes, absolutely. I agree it doesn’t answer the question at hand. Looking at how this stuff works RAW is exposing some issues. Personally, absent some rule about order of operations, I would choose the interaction that allows all of the results to happen. That is, if the REM is Dead ‘before’ Unconscious is canceled, it means result of the simultaneous failed ARM roll nullifies the result of the passedWIP roll, whereas if the failed ARM roll is applied ‘after’ Unconscious is cancelled, then both results effectively get to ‘happen’. But I don’t think there’s a basis for this manner of resolution in the rules.
Another problem is: Almost everything in infinity is FTF. So.. a engineer goes to save a TR REM . Move. ARO declarations: ML shoot. 2nd part of the order repair: WIP success ! So by the rules - unconscious 2 - removed . Why not make a FTF engineer roll vs ML rolls ? Like something just to see if the engineer could be quicker to repair then the ML is to hit ?
The rule for FTFs is that each trooper must be affecting the other. You'd need to break that rule for the outcome you are asking for. Eg. Alice Engineering Bob while Charlie shoots has no effect of Charlie. Ergo it's not FTF.
