Basically, we got two things: Tactical Sense on Suryat HMG. The Suryats were really struggling to find a place in the sectorial, imho, and this might a solo Suryat HMG more viable, and give an otherwise-elite Onyx force some more order economy. Then, of course, we have the Rodok changes. The KHD isn't so big a deal, since we already have such good KHD options, including Kerr-Nau who can be in the Rodok fireteam, but if you're running a Rodok Haris it might be a good fit. And that's the big deal - a Haris fireteam that doesn't cost 160 points. It's not as flexible as the Rodok core, but a smaller model-count fireteam is easier to move around in clever ways that take advantage of super-jump, and could definitely change things up.
The KHD is a big deal, because you can now have two Hackers in the Fireteam that have the same Programs, and can therefore react without risking breaking the Fireteam.
Eh, I'd disagree with that. Better to have the 1 fireteam hacker for the sixth sense and then have other hackers doing things. The one fireteam hacker basically lets your other hackers ARO against stealthed enemy models as well. Plus it's better to have the Assault or regular hackers in the fireteam so they have an ARO option against Stealthed HI/TAGs too.
I'm liking the Haris as it is better for ITSX in that it is easier to forward deploy them. I am considering: Onyx Contact Force ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 3 RODOK (Fireteam: Haris) Combi Rifle, 2 Light Shotguns / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 27) RODOK Paramedic (MediKit) Boarding Shotgun, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 21) RODOK Missile Launcher, Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 28) 2 SWC | 76 Points Open in Infinity Army I would probably use this as an alternative to Kerr-nau + E drone for fireteam hunting. The haris is small enough to maneuver and super jump lets the ML hop up and throw a missile where your opponent doesn't want it. The medic can be used to take objectives while they are out or bring back up team members. The double lt. shotty is good when things get close.
Tactical Sense on Suryat HMG does make it a bit more of interesting an option especially since combine army is always just so expensive. Not sure it makes the cut but its still a nice attempt to improve the unit.
Have been looking at something similar. Reason for ML over a HMG in a Harris/aggressive fireteam? Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
I see a lot of tags and HI in my local meta. As well as a ton of Aleph. HMGs never seem to get the job done. I end up either leaving a lot of units in NWI or they tank the HMG. Besides I have the HMG Q drone. @Death I see a lot of Maruts on the otherside of the table. A static ML unidron might work or it might get stuffed. A noctifer will likely always get stuffed. But a rodok ML maneuvering might get a good bead on the Maruts but it might work or it might not. That being said the HMG is a good option. Your meta may vary.
The tactical awareness suryat is excellent, I often run a suryat duo for that bit of backbone I feel onyx need, usually that features the HMG. Rodok Harris, plus a core kerrnau and unidrons is going to be extremely competitive. Sucker punch buff is great for onyx and vanilla, I frequently run off brand hackers like the maakrep and everyone's favourite Lt HD. Lone Rodok KHD is also good and can combined order with Kermit and a legate to cybermask up.
Can see myself using the Rodok Haris quite a lot in exchange of the single Xeodron I used to run, it's a great slot.
The Rodoks are on my list to try out for sure. I was never quite up to making the full core link work (as with many Onyx players, it's either Rodoks or Unidrons that click, and for me it was Unidrons) but the Haris feels pretty tight if I can accommodate the SWC. I might even just run them as a shotgun team off the back of a heavy Unidron firebase, I'm not sure yet.
*Seesaws hand* I can see the argument for the shotguns if your SWC are all already banked in a massive Unidron and Q-Drone gun battery.
First draft. Could use some tinkering and might indeed trim some SWC to fit the HMG, but I like it as a starting point. Suryat+umbra duo. I want. Both umbra are ava3 and I can't help but to constantly want more ways to take em. I also wish I could use the Harris slot with only one xeodron. Two of those things is top heavy as hell and it falls apart fast. But the changes are pretty neat. Still can't imagine taking a Suryat. The rodok are even better now. And a rodok Harris with unidron core is really really good.
Thinking of using an aggressive Unidron link with a defensive Rodock Harris. I feel like your choices are a little backward with the roles of your respective link teams, but am very interested to hear how it goes.
I got a game in this evening with my QCB Rodok haris list above, into a fourteen order limited insertion Invincible Army list. Lost first turn, but the scenario was unmasking and my opponent knew he had to bank some of those orders of his into actually doing the scenario before his order pool hemorrhaged, so he satisfied himself with picking at my overwatch and otherwise pressed buttons to uncover HVTs, etc. The first turn ended with near two hundred points of angry chinese heavy infantry of all sorts (and one shotgunny REM) hunkered in amongst some crates behind a truck in the middle of the battlefield. Took most of sixteen orders to actually dislodge them, with enfilading fire from the unidron core and the rodoks coming around the flank for tasty B4 light shotguns and then some boarding shotguns in AP mode at models out of cover. Over all, quite happy with them. Two thirds of the haris was dead by game end but that's the nature of the game when you're sending one-wound models in against the creme de la creme of the Invincible Army. Probably won't get an awful lot more games in with Onyx between now and end of January since I'm unlikely to be taking them to the big annual event at CanCon, but might find time for one or two and will definitely revisit this list again if so (maybe with some tinkering).
