Also, speaking of other new profiles for vanilla... 3 points extra on your regular HMG Zuyongs and you get Tactical Awareness. Same with the Shang Ji, if that's more along your tastes. Zhenchas might also let you ease up on that FO Guilang, sorta saving you some of the Guilangs AVA for something like the Sniper or the AHD.
I just had the situation of being half an inch too close too many times to not be overtly cautious of the fact anymore.
I'll say it's nice to have a CoC that doesn't suck either. Wish we had the Haido CoC in vanilla! Disappointed!
Lots of CoC, some cheaper than the Pheasant. Liberties at 10 points seems pretty auto include if you want base defense.
I was referring to guessing range bands. On the other hand if the TR bot is that heavily restricted in LOF it's a TR bot I probably don't give a shit about because it can't see anything anyway.
The Haidao has better combat stats and an extra wound to soak stray crit. Pheasant has a BSG and good melee stats but is otherwise a woodeb stick to the Haidao's iron pipe. Though it's not an issue, Haidao aren't available as COC as has been noted. :)
I know you were, but my point was that Infinity range band guesstimation is very different from Warhammer artillery range guesstimation - Infinity's terrain is a much larger factor than Warhammer's. That means that while you might be good at estimating range bands, that doesn't guarantee that there actually is a +32" band available to use to take out the TR Bot. And while a TR Bot that dug in might not be controlling a lot of the board, they could easily be controlling access to one or two objectives.
If they're playing dug in point defense on the opponent's side of the table, you're not running up the board with your LT to go and kill them anyway, so it's a pointless argument to try and bring up.
Haidao has a CombiRifle. If shit hits the fan and your rambo LT dies chances are you're not sending either of those dorks in to try and fix the situation anyway you'll spend the orders on a different model, you just want to not be LoL at the start of the turn.
I'd be lying if I said I regularly fork out the extra point for the Combi COC in JSA, but if shit has hit the fan I'd use the LT order to set the Haidao into Suppression Fire which is only possible with the more expensive Pheasants
'Course, if you start on your board edge across from the bot, even if it starts at the edge of its deployment zone (and who would give up the longer range of the HMG for that), you'll be 36" away... and, it's not like you want your NCO battery to be too close to the action.
So far Tai Sheng looks great to me. Forward Observer with Chain of Command and NCO?! Seems great! Oh and Tinbot B. Hard to decide between that and a Mk12!
Urgh, that has nothing to do with not always being able to find a >32" band, but fine, I'll leave it be. Well, my point was not about absolute range, it was about practical range given terrain. It's not always going to be a thing, and the Sniper Daoying can definitely have some good value for hunting TR Bots - simply that it's not guaranteed.
Major Lunah got a Major boost! Now Marksmanship LX ignores all cover mods in addition to +6 to BS. Not bad I think. Yes the trade off is Burst 1 but that might be all she needs.
The 32'' band is often very fickle, since most good sniper spots in DZs tend to be closer to the edge of it and not the table edge, while TR HMG bots tend to want to prefer spots nearer to the DZs edge. Which leaves the issue of you having to hunt for diagonal firelanes to sniper that TR bot. Which might not always be the best lane for further sniping either. Still, I thoroughly believe having a reliable ''screw you and your overused TR bot'' piece is well worth the added use hassle.
