Well Santiagos will be getting 1 pts discount, and we still don't know if Teutons will get anything (as your initial comment seemed to suggest).
Yes, but with current (apparent) approach to MO being bit more "downsized" to single Combat Group that seems like a lesser issue.
Please look at @Marduck's single Combat Group list again. It's exactly 300pt. Finding an extra 6pt for the Santiago Spitfire would involve rewriting the entire list.
Please look at it now, as it is illegal atm. (hint: SWC) And it also has Hospitallers who just got 2 pts discount on every profile ....
But for raw shooting on the active, the Teuton is better, and more reliably deadly in CC. They're different options, they provide different benefits and costs. If you already have specialists and don't care for the E/M or visor then the Teuton is a clearly superior choice!
How is a Teuton Spitfire better than a Santiago Spitfire ? Regarding CC: you have 3 Magisters to do that for you. The range of targets who are better attacked by Berserker and not by Magister/Santiago (shooting) is really really low (I can't think of a one atm.).
Also I want to remind everyone that atm. Teutons are missing Stealth ^^ (quite derpy for putting them into link)
Yeah, I give up. Clearly there is never any reason ever to take a cheaper trooper that does almost everything equally well as the more expensive trooper.
It's... cheaper? As good at the shooty shooty but less pointy pointy, that's the dream right? The Teuton is stripped of bells and whistles, the Santiago isn't, pick if you want raw focus or multi-capable etc.
Well we will (obviously I won't) see what "the truth" will say about it. What I'm saying atm. is that it appears that Teutons-Santiago might (if Teutons will be left unchanged) enter the same "problem" as Hospitallers-Santiagos have now (that means one being almost completly eclipsed by other).
Unlinked base line infantry with HMGs are also cheap, but if you cant plop them in a link it's not like you see them a lot :D But back to the topic, I'm hoping for some eclipse grenades and readressing their weapon loadouts as "more combi and spitfire platforms for 35+ points!" does not sound inspiring...
Teuton: +3 BTS, +1PH Santiago: +1ARM, Cube, Specialist Operative, E/M Grenades, DA CCW, MA1(Stealth, Courage), 360 Visor, -0.5 SWC seems worth paying a couple points for .... considering the starting investment is at least 37 points and it does add a lot of utility to a potential Link for a rather miniscule amount of points That is IF the Teuton is completely unchanged for some ridiculous reason. Hey I guess Teutons as they are now might be worth considering for Links for the great and exiting missions that punish you for bringing Specialists or antilists against Avatar/Shinobu.
Yes, Teutons are more lean, if all I want to do is to shoot with Spitfire. But what guarantee do I have, that I won't need the other stuff? If I'm creating a list and have to choose between two very similar units, but one of them comes with more extensive toolbox for just a few more points... Also, please read the main argument for Teuton usability. Does it make us excited about the unit? "It performs almost as well in its main function while being slightly cheaper" is a good selling point when I'm buying a used car, not when I'm fielding a heavy infantry in power armour.
most hackable cc knight (no stealth), yet another expensive combi platform, expensive (in SWC) spitfire platform.
