I don't see why the sudden anathema to interpreting "trooper" as literally trooper?

I've spent years dealing with the limitations imposed on my netrods by the fact they aren't considered troopers and the fact that the rules for moving things between combat groups assume that the things you'll be moving are troopers (since AI Beacons are literally the only non-troopers that can contribute to your combat group size).

I agree it's a bit strange but in lieu of something clearly stating otherwise, I would expect poison to work on anything that isn't a trooper

That's a good point. Huh. It's the exact same circumstance too; the rules only contemplate troopers, so stuff falls through the gaps. The netrod thing has been settled for some time now, right?

Yeah, it's pretty broadly accepted, although I can't recall if it was a Palanka ruling or just a "the broader community decided" thing

it hast STR, while you are correct that it is a scenery item with STR, rather than a trooper with STR, the logical reading is that the use of the word trooper was a poor choice by the writers of poison.

So presumably you would apply the same standard to moving units between combat groups and allow AI Beacons to do so then?

I'd be keen to see the thread if you think this, I had a pretty thorough search and couldn't find anything with a solved tag or a post by him.

Only because it would force CB to acknowledge that a lot of their rules calls are entirely arbitrary.

The first notable instance of it I can see involved treating Scenery Structures as Troopers so that Martial Arts etc could be used on them... but at the same time they're not troopers so you can't use Guided ammunition to hit them... it's just a clusterfuck.

Anti-materiel specifies that it is the weapon's ammunition that can affect the piece of scenery. Poison is not part of the weapon's ammunition.

    That's an excellent response, Mahtamori!

    I think that solves it.
