Well, I do like the idea of getting closer with a camo+BSG or whatever similar. Getting rid of the other link members is obvisouly a good approach too. But I do disagree on stating brute force is wrong. First of all, I do like gunning things down with massive, unmatched, overpowered bullets storm. Then, because this does not make it an actual viable solution ;), I would add that it entirely depends on the position on the board. If I only need to invest a 2 or 3 orders to fire my HMG through nimbus to that nasty ARO god, I will probably go for it instead of paying 4+ orders on approaching (and probably sacrificing) a BSG token. Specially if this BSG could go push some buttons and/or chase something else. IMHO, we have tools to handle this in those 2 different ways - and we can have those tools all together in one list; then we just need to adapt in real time to the situation. It good to look for answers before the game as we did there though, and know we have them when we need them.
but if you're using Sixth Sense lvl 1, IJW has declared that you ignore Camouflage and Hiding. You don't get to pick and choose which parts of CH you ignore or not, so if you're ignoring the "you can't delay" bit, you are also ignoring the "can only declare Discover", ergo, the Zanying gets to light up any Camo tokens without discovering. That's highly suspect, so I think IJW is wrong (I know this is blasphemy on the forum): sixth Sense does not ignore Camouflage and Hiding.
Sixth Sense doesn't allow you to ignore Camouflaged state. It allows you a different option of reaction to those offered by Camouflaged state.
This is not what I, or anyone else, has claimed. There are two ways to delay - because the active trooper is in a Marker state, or because you have Sixth Sense and the active trooper is in ZoC. If you're not using the Camo clause that lets you delay, why are you applying the clause that depends on delaying via the Camo rules? Those two clauses simply aren't in effect.
It's a separate clause, like all the rules implying you don't get to shoot Camo tokens with guns. The Camo rules have 3 clauses that we are discussing here: 1) you can only declare discover targeting Camo tokens 2) Camo allows you to delay 3) if you delay and the Camo token doesn't reveal itself, you lose your ARO IJW, you are stating that clause 2 is some how directly connected to clause 3, so if we ignore clause 2, we can ignore clause 3, but we do NOT ignore clause 1. I'm saying that if we cannot ignore the limitation on actions declared against Camo tokens (clause 1), then we can't ignore clause 3: it's a separate clause, just like clause 1. Relevant part of the wiki:
Yes, I'm well aware of the wording. The 'however' means that bullet three is a subordinate clause, a direct result of bullet two. It's not worded as a blanket statement, but as what happens when delaying via bullet two.
It's worded as a blanket statement: if it was a qualifier for clause 2, CB would have put it in clause 2.
Right, its conflicting the fact that if you delay (FROM WHATEVER ABILITY YOU HAVE) you lose the ARO if the marker doesn't reveal. It Doesn't say "if you delay using the delay granted to you by CH". That's what you're inserting there.
Yes it is. CB has put great effort into formatting and rules clarity in N3: N2 was a convoluted mess.
No, I'm really not inserting anything. You're the one inserting 'FROM WHATEVER ABILITY YOU HAVE'. 'However' making clause 3 a subordinate that's referring to the previous clause is basic English grammar.
I don't believe I'm wrong, I think IJW is trying to insert "intention" into something that is clearly worded differently. But either way: You are right in that this has NOTHING TO DO with the current state of YJ. I'm sorry for dragging the conversation off topic. In an effort to bring it back on topic, lets discuss generic YJ, starting with this post from Space Ranger: This is CB's business model, and while I do like having blister availability, they need to reign in the SKUs to stay in stores. With the proxy rules being as generous as they are, you can "make do" with using all your JSA stuff as proxies, and just space out the purchases (so instead of a model a month, you get a 4 model box every quarter). You can also look for a third party who is splitting boxes, but YMMV, and that doesn't keep the FLGS lights on. Vanilla YJ is in the toughest spot its been in since N1, and I do see a lot of your concerns. I don't think its as hopeless as you are saying: we still have options for everything... but they just might not be "good". previously, YJ had a philosophy of the best CC units, backed up by the ability to bring any equipment you want. With the loss of JSA, we should just give up on the "CC" philosophy, I think that's gone and we're not going to get it back no matter how hard we gnash our teeth about "YJ Identity". The inclusion of IA will double down on the "any equipment" philosophy, with big, high tech units with all kinds of equipment and special rules (judging from the new profiles). I think we might see more profiles with other specialist profiles with the rest of IA. While the HaiDao might be an engineer, and its definitely going to be more expensive than a Tokusetsu... it will help with some of the classifieds. Now there is a bigger swath of classifieds, so you aren't as screwed by only having the one doctor. At least YJ has the option to fulfill all of the new classifieds: its just a lot harder for list building to tick all the classified checkboxes. I've usually found that if I try to get all the classifieds, its really hard to have a functioning list. Try to get the low hanging fruit classifieds that already fit your list's theme... but don't neglect your list composition. Focus on the core mission, leave the classifieds as "nice to have". Treat it as a tiebreaker, not the focus of your list. Unless you're playing Highly Classified over and over again. Then just play something less painful, like Biotechvore. I do agree with you about the ISS story in Uprising being a turn off to the whole faction, and I don't even mind playing the antagonist: it was poorly handled fluff that injected a grim-dark racist focus into a game that didn't need it. It's a dead horse: we said we didn't like them doubling down on the WWII vibe, that it doesn't match previous fluff for the faction or the universe, and CB announced that Uprising was great and the players [the Siesta Defense Force] loved it. You can have some hope that they haven't discontinued any of the other factions they were going to do away with (SAA and MRRF) so maybe they listened to us... but they aren't going backtrack to fix YJ: YJ is going in a new direction, and you will need to buy the new stuff. (edit: reminder about the individuals who are splitting boxes. One of them is on e-bay, but you have to search world wide [he has free shipping sometimes])
I really don't see that "all equipment" vibe looking at the new profiles. No at all, in fact, although I would love if versatility was our thing. About the fluff, the interview with Interruptor where he was puzzled players "didn't get" his portrayal of YJ was absolutely hilarious (except the part where he states players should read his shit so we could "learn new words")
You don't like playing the "bad guys" so you've decided to play the mercenary faction of hired killers that makes the druze look like a nicer option...
mercenary faction of hired killers look like a nicer option compared to Genocidal Saturday morning cartoon villains (ignoring the fact that the real reason he is playing Ikari is because he can use his old figures that got removed from his army)
Ikari, and the mixed availability of JSA and Yu Jing troops, might've swung me into playing JSA. This way I get 3 sectorials to play, and a more eclectic collection - and that's before I picked up a Druze box. Honestly, from my experience only, CB's business strategy made sense; they enticed me to spend money on models I wouldn't necessarily have done so on, and I've had a more fun year as a result.
