maybe I'm not finding it anywhere ,but are you able to perform a ranged attack against a target within range if you are adjacent against another opposing character?

No. You cannot make a ranged attack while in base contact with an enemy model. It's in the rule book where it talks about being in base contact. You are limited in your actions and AROs.

Is this a question about Infinity or Aristeia?

The key requirements for a ranged attack are Line of Sight and Range. Most of the best ranged attacks have a minimum range as well as a maximum range. For instance, Major Lunah's "Called Shot" has a minimum range of 3. So she could not shoot an adjacent enemy. Other characters could block line of sight or could provide cover. You need to follow the rules about drawing lines from vertices of the hex of the shooter to the target. Often it is obvious but sometimes it is tricky.

This is completely untrue. If you can see the hexpoints on your target, it doesn't matter where other enemies are.

@deathklockk was answering for Infinity. There are no AROs or base contact in Aristeia.

Jesus, we really need separate forums for each game. Or at the very least tags or something showing what people are talking about.

They're in separate subforums. It should generally be pretty clear which one you're on

The arrows at the top and bottom of the page show what section of the forum you're looking at, but if you get here from the new posts page all it says is "rules" maybe changing the name of the sub boards to "n3 rules" and "A! rules" or something might help(and future proof the forum for N4 in 2022...)
