My Druze Hacker is fast and loose as she's spent a long time being very varied proxies. From Nexus, Bit, Speculo Killer....

I remember that. The thread was about making working Infinity lists using only the faction's line troop (Fusiliers, Zhanshi, Morat Vanguard, etc...). Basically the closest thing to having/playing Imperial Guard in Infinity.

My memory is different. It was a few months ago, and the topic was something along the lines of "how much orders is spam" or something.
That list had Wallace, Uxia, a Grey HMG link and things like that... But also enough of those 6 pts guys to blot out the sun.

Without more costly units that could've easily been like 5 combat groups, but there was only 3.

I'm generally slightly obsessive about having all the REMs represented faithfully on my side of the table. I don't mind if my opponent proxies 'em up as long as they're clear as to what is what. So in Onyx I have my 8 Drones, and in USAriadna I have 2 each of the different Traktor Mul permutations.

I'm currently in the middle of converting enough rifle Foxtrots to run the 4 full complement of FOs without repeats.

Probably one of the most worthwhile things to do. I haven't regretted it.

At most I will proxy the correct unit with a different gun (ghazi with BS will be a CR) or a stand in with the right gun (Druze KHD as a Moran, Spec-ops model as an engineer). It keeps me from doing lists like having 8 Pfaust Daylami, which is a good thing. If I want to do something stupid like that, I have to spend the money/time to do it, and I don't field identical models (apart from remotes).

I don't care if a friend proxies anything they want for a friendly game though. Tournaments are a different matter, as I think they should be WYSIWYG as close as possible, to make things clear to your opponent in a competitive setting.

From experience in a normal table with average terrain the game system can break down at about over 20 models, if not outright, it will start show excessive strain.

On a big table or a table with really big terrain buildup the game will break up in many minor games of combat groups engaging each other in isolation.

Call me a filthy casual but I only play profiles that I have models for, with the exception of Thorakitai but that is going to change as soon as I get my new box.

The CCW only Galwegian is defnitely a proper model for the chain rifle one, I think it even says so on the box. I still glued a chain rifle on it.

So ok, you get 2 chain rifle Galwegians in this box of 4, but you want to have 10 to really annoy your opponents and show them how you can win with simple technology. Does anyone really buy 5 boxes for that?

Personally I'd just convert the shotgun and/or rifle guy to have a sword and pistol since those are pretty easy to find elsewhere. Though the chain rifle should be pretty easy to replicate from sheet styrene or even layered printer card...

I hope not too many people will copy that idea, because just as stated above by someone else, the game mechanics arel likely to break down if too many troopers are on the board.

I agree. 6 would be plenty, but survivable. Any sane and considerate player would not field more than 6 Galwegians any.

How do people like that continue to find people to play?

Assuming that nobody warned me about them, they'd get told to unclench the first time, and would likely watch me pack up in the middle of the game if they did it a second time.

Back to the OP: The only force I own that has lots of proxies/conversions is my Public Security set. I chose models to look like the characters from Ghost in the Shell SAC.

Otherwise, I keep to very simple rules for proxying:
    1. Model is armed with the appropriate weapon, so I can remember what it has.
    2. Model looks like it has the appropriate ARM value, so my opponent can remember how tough it is.
    3. Whatever model I'm using as the proxy, it's actual unit is not on the table. So if I'm using a Zanshi HMG to proxy as a Keisotsu HMG, there is not a Zanshi on the table.
I kept tripping myself up in games where the model was an Intruder HMG but the profile was an Intruder Combi, and some of my early GitS proxy models don't look like they're ARM4, so people kept being surprised when Batou (or Boma) took an HMG to the chest and kept coming.

I also use different hair colors on all of my basic line troopers, so that I can write down 'Pink Hair and Green Hair are FOs, Blue Hair is a Paramedic' etc.

Wow, I do pretty much exactly the same. If I can, I paint the models to show that they are specialists, for example my Tomcat Doctor has a Red Cross shoulder patch. For the Alguaciles, my opponents have to deal with: "the guy with the green hair is the paramedic". I don't think some having some tiny part somewhere on the model indicating this would truly help. I am quite happy that some the later models acutally have explicit paramedics.

I think it's more like their should be a limit on combat groups at points levels in line with swc. Say one group per 200 points or part of it. Mostly because the Galwegians aren't the only ava total 6 point profiles, they're just the only one in a faction that doesn't have any flashy 40+ point 0 swc units to tempt people away from orderspam, combined with inspiring leadership. Their was a post on the Facebook group a while ago asking for help building a 400 point limited insertion list. It's a really ridiculous idea to begin with, but for most factions, it means rolling out a couple of the big expensive units that you have to choose between. For ariadna it means leaving at least 25 points unused if soldiers of fortune are allowed and 50 if they're not, and an almost total inability to push any buttons in missions. Even at 300 points, one you account for a couple of specialists, it's a struggle to get close to the point limit in 10 orders and then people start complaining about T2 spam instead...

Now as faction specific weaknesses go "no flashy expensive point sinks" is a pretty livable one, but as a strength "lots of orders" is already taken away by a game modifier, and it has several solutions that can be used to make it go away by turn 2...

For Nomads I use the design strap on their thighs to indicate their role, red for generic soldiers, blue for FO, while for paramedics/ docs, beige for engineers, violet for hackers.

In general I really like colour coding specialists.

Seriously? People still have a problem with that in 2017?

Plain starter one for #1, ADHL with easy weapon swap for #2, and these for #3 and #4 :

I have a few proxies in my QK army I regularly use:

    - Two female posthumans I slapped Ragik wings to their backs, to be my Yuan Yuan Psycho Twins.

    - Female Fiday, which I always proxy as an Al Hawa FO (which is never a problem since you can't have Hassassins in QK; and I love that Fiday model too much to let her sit in the bag unused)

    - A third Posthuman of that box of 4 that I proxy as a Mobile Brigadas (but I recently got a female Mobile Birgadas Hacker on ebay, so that proxy will soon be discarded)

    - An Anaconda TAG to proxy as an Iguana, just because I love the Anaconda and don't like the Iguana much. But I got the Iguana anyway as a Birthday gift; so I guess I can play with the real thing if my oponent gets picky.

Other than that, I usually try to play WYSIWYG. Especially with my Odalisques, I have two models with Spitfire (and neither are the Chun Li lookalike)
