How about a list consisting solely of knights/HI and don’t activate the heaters, concentrate efforts on destroying them.

Use Seraph as assasin to kill enemy DT, use Joan as own DT to have a sturdy piece.

Or if you prefer Hosp+Mag link:

You can use either Joan or Montesa as your DT, if Joan is DT then use Link or Montesa biker as mobile scoring (consoles) or assasins.

Apply linked HMG from Hosp+Magister link untill all visible Janissaries are dead ?

HMG range of 32" should easily get the Janissary.

Also Janissaries do not have Sniper Rifle, did you mean Janissary ML ? If so then a TO MSR should also do the trick (hit ML under 24" or over 48").

Actually you "only" need to get out to 41" to catch a Missile Launcher out of good range.

So you have an 8" sweet spot where you're in and they are out.

'though the same goes for the 8" band between 16" and 24" (Sniper Rifles are actually pretty good at range bands).

So I played a rematch against my Yu Jing opponent. His list was largely the same, but this time making his Hsien the data tracker instead of his Sui Juan.

    This was my list:

I won initiative roll and agonized. I built a list that wants to go first, so I was hoping i'd lose the initiative roll, my opponent chooses to go second (as is better on the mission) so i can have the best side and go first. Instead I won initiative so I had to give my opponent the better side and hope my Tikbalang can wreck enough havoc with 10 orders + Joan coordinated order.

I kept Joan as the data tracker and used the Tik as a scalpel, he ran down the field and got a nice lateral angle to kill the Sui Juan, killed a random celestial guard lying on a roof, and took a few pot shots at some kuang shi before running back to safety. A celestial guard smoke launcher protected most of his kuangshi and REMs from getting pasted, but by that point the damage had been done. The random celestial guard dying put him in loss of lieutenant which massively hampered him, also forcing a squad of kuang shi to impetuously run into a TR bot (to promptly get shredded). It was brutal.

Turns out Tikbalangs are really good, who knew? Well, Shae-Konnit's split box only ever having Ulhans in stock kind of tipped me off... PanO's best TAG?

So had a small tournament yesterday (friday night), second mission was Frostbyte, went against MAF.
Take in to account that Engineering Deck was also a mission, so there was a big ass central building in the middle of the board.
My opponent list is from memory, but i think its accurate.

The Montesa was there because i wanted to try it, our JSA player has a LOT ff success bikes and even with no practice decided to give it a go.
Roled for initiative and won, decided i want to go first, he is famos for flanking first turn with a Suryat link brute force style and leaving nothing behind, but for some reason i keep stealing the initiative every time we play.
Deployed Joan in the center left with the TraumaDoc, the Auxila guarding the left flank, Montesa center right and all the Cheerleaders with the Nisses on the right flank that was close off by a container and a building, no ARO game at all.
He deployed a link of Suryat with Ratorak on the right with a lof to my Montesa (he is too big and i need to learn that), with heavy weapons and bad intentions, a Q-drone HMG with half cover and a slave drone behind on the left with Bit and Dr.Worm close by guarding a corridor, there was a R-drone in total cover.
I deployed the Cutter to the left of Joan, he deployed Kornak with a MK12 covering the hard left.

First thing off was to NOT take the impetus order and that makes me sad.
Then came the "just keep feeding the Cutter" turn, kill the Q-drone, Bit and Dr.Worm were in short lanes because of some containers, but the Cutter is a slender and tall beast that can see over them and fuck their day, and that he did. Had some ftf with a HRL Suyat that was out of cover because of angle (again, he is tall and no one expects it) and keep surviving, even got me burn to one str but finally took complete cover one wound down. Clean road ahead used Joan coordinated to drive him hard left and in lof with one Superior-Warrior Kornak..... yea, he was killed and the cuter went to a hiding spot mid table on the now almost deserted left.

In his turn the link made short work on the Montesa, the poor poor thing, conected one heating unit and took refuge on between a building and the right border of the table, covered from the front by some containers not far, with heavy weapons covering both sides looking to the left so my Tag dont get the wrong ideas.

Remember that building and containers that i put my cheerleaders behind? well, with the coordinated and some orders the Nisses went up and shot a bunch of them out of cover, starting with the vulkan and combi, taking them down to 2. Joan activated a heater.

He killed the Nisses with his HMG in cover and move foreward, he had 3 orders all in all buth the Suryat are so expensive that there was no Retreat.

The last turn i killed one more and did the classified.

    final score 10-1

All in all i have to say that the list worked exactly as expected, Cutter to smash face in one side, Nisses to eliminate anyone that wants to move up and have cover against the TAG, Joan giving fuel to the 3 peaces that can actually take a coordinated, Auxila for close aggression/madtrups clearing/etc and Montesa for flanks if the enemy clams up.
My opponent is a great player, i just managed to catch him unprepared for this particular situation.
    Sad about the Montesa.

In another table there was an O-yoroi fighting a Tikbalangs and a Dragao..... much more epic.

PanO is more than well equipped for this mission, it just has to play it in a somewhat different way that most factions, no square peg in circular hole.

This list works pretty well if you go first.
Made the Squalo the Datatracker so that I could use the irregular order to lob grenades across the board.
Deployed the Squalo first and keept the Uhlan as my last deployment. Because of this, my opponent would deploy his ARO pieces to try and counter my Squalo, leaving them exposed for the Uhlan to try and pick them off, one at a time. With the Squalo cleared from the enemy, he could lob grenades to try and kill the enemies Datatracker and specialists.

The Fusiliers are there to defended the heater and provided hacking help in cause someone tries to hack the TAG's.

Yes, I've discovered this. It's really unassuming on Paper. It's hard to intuit what makes it so good.
Lower ARM than other TAG, so that looks bad.
Mimetism? Who cares, the Cutter and Uhlans have marker state.
Plain HMG? Who cares, half the other tags have multi HMGs.
Heavy Flamer? Same as before, not a USP.
Climbing Plus? I guess thats fine, it's a bit like the Seraph having super jump.
AP Mines? Oh this is the unique bit. But only mines? Ok.

The real synergy is the most unassuming feature of 6-4 move and climbing plus. Because 6-4 move is so standard on these big boys it's less obvious when trying to make a power assessment.

Amazing. I'm sad you didn't get to use the biker Montesa properly, but I think it's a thing where when you play a game with a new toy one is destined to misuse it and it seem bad. I've done this with my Dragoes and Cutter then they got shelved for like 4 games before trying them again.

I love reading about these sorts of strategies, it's exactly the sort of tactic that I don't think about often enough. My only comparable trick is a cutter and crocman list where I only put d own 67 points on the table whilst holding my reserve model. But actually using your data tracker as a bait piece during deployment is a master stroke.

@Superfluid no kidding, geting him into the list costed a second Nisses HMG and a second Auxila, so that guy is no cheap by eny means and will have to do a lot of heavy lifting to earn his spot, specialy in VIRD with Helots.
Then again i know the problem is with me and not the unit, saw bikes doing great stuff and i´m waiting the materials for a conversion to finally arrive.

The more I think about the Montesa profile the more I like it. Bike movement is no joke and getting a solid HI into a squishy flank on turn one sends really strong. This is mostly off the back of my first game with a tik, and having a hyper mobile brickshithouse for first turn is valuable.

Also what I'm realising more about this mission is it is a very 'fair' one, with regards to how it makes you fight. No mid table infiltration from most units means that (barring a few special units) your stuff is on one side and your opponents on the other with a large no man's land, which puts the onus back on straight fire fights. Which we love.

It's what caused me to try and use two TAG's for this mission. You don't have to worry that much about camo and TO camo in the middle, so you can just walk them up and try to out shoot everything. Also helps that you get 3 points for killing more army points.

They do, but the exclusion zones on this mission can make them very predictable, short of actually rolling for the airborne deployment drop in the back line.

Which i'm wondering if i'm going to see more of at this tourney i'm prepping for. I guess it's worth always taking a hacker for 'hacking transport aircraft' now, even if it's just to dissuade the attempt in the first place.

With the Season X modification to AD3/4/5 so you can drop without the template, I'd have argued that it was already well worth making sure that you have at least one Hacking Device or Hacking Device+ (hell, even a Defensive or White Hacking Device) in order to Hack Transport Aircraft and reduce the risk from AD.
