You have a run down on it mate? I've been uhming and ahing on it for a few days now, there are very, very few reviews out there and would like your input!
FB Blog link> https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=918218121708384&id=463880327142168 Mostly just a quick run down on what's happening and a vague feel of the game, worth the cost of admission, the models you can buy as an option then just add to it. Very lethal game, rewards good positioning and has excellent hidden deployment mechanics.
My friend got it but we haven't gotten around to playing it yet. Basically our group of board game players is something like 3-6 players with varying attendance. Seems like the kind of game you would want a stable group of players to play concurrent sessions like DnD.
So being a massive fan of ROOT, I've been eagerly chasing every scrap of new info about its future that I hear. But a recent announcement has me puzzled. Apparently they sold the rights to make a ROOT rpg to some company. I love ROOT but I don't really feel a desire to RP a bunny warrior. I don't understand how even the question of a PnP RPG came up so quickly. Is this just something furries would be interested in or is there any actual interest in this? I guess I'm off the belief that 'not everything needs an adaptation' so shake my head at video game movies and board game adaptations of stuff. Same with RPGs. Just doesn't seem necessary. Root fan or not, anyone got any hard feelings about RPGs/board game adaptations? I'm still SMH at the horizon zero dawn and assassins creed board game announcements and then I get hit with this ROOT RP thing...
I wouldn't know, Root stepped on my personal mine of 0 day DLC immediately announced/released expansions. In that regard I'm of the opinion that if a game has an expansion announced less than a year later it was probably bad from the start. As for cross-media branding: on the one hand I'm suspicious of that and assume a cash-in until proven otherwise, OTOH there have been times I was pleasantly surprised by a decent adaptation. Also, as much as I dislike Root's art style, fables != furries. Spoiler Please do not link any Root porn that might exist to prove me otherwise, I don't wanna know.
Haha being an Aussie, I'm pretty sure "Root furries" or "Root fables" will immediately lead to interesting results. Not sure I agree with that assessment of Root. The expansion was announced with the KS and was free for backers. And most people feel the expac factions aren't as 'tight' as the other core game so they clearly weren't developed at the same time. The core game is several kinds of excellent. The expansion is entirely unnecessary unless you want an AI player. I urge you to give it a go if possible!
Played Root at the Essen Spiel fair and it was really interesting, the asymetrical part seems to be working very good. But it is a very, very complex game which should only be played with experienced boardgamers who know what they're getting into.
Its my GOTY for 2018 but I absolutely agree. There is no easy learning curve. This is not remotely close to being a gateway game XD
I got by with illustrated Grimm fairy tales. It didn't help in making me less fucked up. Spoiler Also I don't know what you're talking about: " != " means "is NOT", I was specifically referring to fables being a separate (and mostly innocent) aestheric.
Picked up Clank! in Space somewhat recently. Seems to be a bit more replayable than the original, but I haven't been able to play it much yet. Thunderstone Quest just came in the other day and I will pick it up soon. That game was fun and I look forward to playing more deckbuilders in general.
A friend bought a copy of Smash Up recently, I played it a few years ago and remember not being enamored with it but was willing to give it another go or four. I'm still not enamoured with it.
Anyone giving KeyForge a spin? I'm interested and watching it closely but not likely to dive in. Just super curious to know how well deck balancing works with the algorithm approach. Not super interested in the advice to just buy a new deck if you get a lame ducks XD
