So wait a sec, do we measure distance to a victim or a center of explosion?

    Victim. Always primary victim.

    Wait what. Da fyq?

That's a potential of 6-7 inches extra range (depending on target size) on top of the weapon range, compared to measuring to blast focus extra range of a little under 2,5 inches.

The flip-side is that if your primary target is a bit too far away, you can't place the template closer to get into a better range band.

Wait... If they have to be my target and not the blast center, then why don't things like ODD and cover apply?
Hmm I just noticed smoke is targetless buy normal grenades are not.

For Speculative they don't for, as far as I know, little reason besides "tactical advice" box saying so.
Probably doesn't fly with regular template weapons.
    Would like a clarification tbh.

Yah the tactical advice box would work fine if spec fire targeted a spot, but falls apart if you have to target and suffer the mods.
Spec fire was my favorite way of dealing with TO camo markers.

It hasn't changed, you just need to place the template off-centre from the target trooper to ignore Camo and ODD MODs.
