I've been looking at TJC profiles and their link options and nothing is really popping out as need to have in a list. Probably really wrong at this assumption. The crazy thought I had was running a Tunguska list but in vanilla. Star profiles will still be there in the list but will also have access to some inexpensive orders. What do you think? Could it work or do I need to look at link options again to see what I am missing?
If you feel that way, start with this and write the rest vanilla-style: Jurisdictional Command of Tunguska ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 5 SECURITATE Lieutenant Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 13) SECURITATE Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 13) SECURITATE Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 13) SECURITATE Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 13) SECURITATE Feuerbach / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 22) 1 SWC | 74 Points Open in Infinity Army You should like it.
I frequently run the Scuritate Lt in Vanilla for Hunting Party. Veteran hard counters the EM grenade strat for that mission.
Honestly, playing a REM + Tunguskan list seems like a lot of fun. Particularly if you then pair that with a more classic Intruder + Zeroes + Morlocks list. Go for it.
Bakunin with just a Kusanagi Haris. I've also run just a Duo TM as the only link successfully. Moderator links aren't worthwhile just for the sake of having a link. But, I think in a tournament setting all of these only make sense if your other list is a traditional Sectorial list. If you're running two lists without a core or haris then you really should ask yourself why you're running a Sectorial.
Raoul can't fight for vanilla nomads (without soldiers of fortune), he is only found in star co and tunguska. definitely gives a good reason to play tunguska (beside fireteams)
If you are willing and able to take the Soldiers of Fortune bite, it feels trivial to toss in a few Yuan Yuan for good measure.
Which kind of is against the special operations feeling of Infinity. I don't like to spam. Would really like to see more lists across all factions that support that feeling.
I'm currently swapping between Vanilla and StarCo, which seems to be something of a greatest hits in terms of our Sectoral and Merc options.
Hiring a bunch of ruthless pirates to charge on ahead of you seems like the perfect cover for a deniable operation. "T'wassen us Mr. O-12 representative sir, t'was them dirty, good for nuthin' Yuarn Yuarns"
I haven't played star co yet, but I just bagged a preowned collection of most of the star co character mercs to add to my nomads so really looking forward to giving it a shot :D Prior to the upcomign change that makes all named merc troopers "characters" for purposes of objectives, star co doesn't have a single "character" in ITS 10
Vanilla is really strong for us I think. I am actually super tempted to run more Hollow Men in Vanilla, while we're on the topic. I reckon a Hollow Man Spitfire could be a fantastic option, fast, tough, good firepower and not that expensive.
Not to mention a six inch Super Jump gives you solid options for getting at units that would otherwise require significant order expenditure.
Caveat: I've only had TJC played against me, and haven't played it myself, but I don't really have any strong interest in doing so in the near future. I've been consistently happy with Hollow Man performance in Vanilla. I'm also a pretty die hard Vanilla player in general, across all my factions, so you'll rarely hear me advocating for sectorial play. I've seen the Hollow Man Spitfire run in vanilla before and have been impressed. Personally, I like the MULTI + Pitcher variant, and wish that was the loadout for the AHD profile, because that would solidify it as a almost always take in my vanilla lists. Most of the stuff we got in TJC is great in vanilla, especially the Kriza, Hollow Man, Zondnautica, Mary, and Hecklers. I'm not terribly excited about Grenzers, Perseus, or Securitate, but there's nothing wrong with them. There're just less toolboxy than the other stuff you can get, and in some cases, like Perseus, just feel.. odd. No pun intended. Mary, the Kriza, and the Zondnautica have become staples of my Limited Insertion Nomad lists. I basically don't leave home without a Kriza HMG these days, it's just too useful and dependable. Mary and the Zondnautica are less common in my lists, but they do see a lot of table time. As far Tunguska links go, the Securitate + Grenzer + Perseus link has a lot of flexibility, especially if you pair it with an Interventor to grant your link white noise via one of the Securitate's repeaters. This is anti-synergistic with the Grenzers, though, but there are situations where this is valuable. It just depends on your overall link composition. I have heard that the Hollow Man link is fun and that when it's backed up by a Clockmaker, it is incredibly difficult to destroy. Raoul, the Spektr KHD, and the FD options for the Tsyklon are also appealing, and I would certainly field them if I was thinking seriously about playing Tunguska. I'm just enjoying vanilla too much these days to make the effort. I also don't enjoy the list building puzzle when I'm "obligated" to include a link, although as @loricus and @inane.imp have suggested, our other two motherships work just fine without links. Perhaps I will try a link-less or duo/haris heavy style of Tunguska in the future, but I'm not terribly excited about it. The way I see it, if you want a challenging list building puzzle and want to play an elite Nomad force with links and lots of cool toys, then Tunguska is for you. If you want maximum tactical flexibility and resilience, and don't care about links, then vanilla. Perhaps @natetehaggresar has more opinions, as he's my primary TJC opponent.
@WiseKensai generally I agree. I think that in general, across all factions, vanilla is probably* better then sectorials. (*I am a firm believer that this game is well balanced if you talked to 5 different people and asked who were powerhouse factions and weak ones, you probably would get five different sets of answers). I've run Tunguska exclusively since release because I enjoy Tunguska, I love their fluff, its what interested me in infinity, and its what initially had me playing nomads over aleph. (But why not both?). If you're playing a sectorial, you get links, and higher AVA on units. If you;re not using link, or the expanded AVA, there is no reason to be playing the sectorial from a mechanics view. (Though they have started including sectorial only profiles, I do love the spektr KHD...) It is a puzzel fitting in a link, but at the same time, you were gonna take guys away, so take some guys that can link. At least in Tunguska thats not hard to do with all the mixed link options. (at least a haris). FWIW I keep going back on forth on Perseus in vanilla, the non-linked profile get super jump, which allows for some shenanigans, he is like a super rodok with ODD instead of mimitism. (+good CC + NWI + breaker combi + smoke) You at least get what you pay for. Also there is a reason I have a converted ML Grenzer. Generally I'd prefer a Grrl as a ML option in vanilla, but the Grenzer has pros too, he never frenzies, and costs less, so if you're list is tight or your playing 200, hes not a bad option if you want a ML.
To be fair, I didn't say 'no link' I said 'no Core'. And that's mainly because Moderators are trash. I don't think that's as true for Tunguska because the Securitate core is so solid. You might be able to run two trios: I've often run Moiras / Custodiers that way, to relatively decent effect. Say Hollowmen Haris + Grenzers tro (with Interventor, Percy or Securitate options) fleshed out with REMs and solo pieces. If you're not taking a core you need to be able to answer the question "well what am I running a Sectorial then?" However, "for a minor link, increased AVA and a few bespoke profiles" isn't a bad answer.
