(I still think that FA2 in the rules right now stacks with Suppression Fire, tbh. Not that I argue when people I'm playing say it doesn't, but I think it does) Anyway those bikes will be awesome for Looting & Sabotage, for sure. With speed like that, an Anti-Material CC attack, and hitting at effective DAM 16 against a static target (two saves, needing 9s!) with that level of speed and CQB ability, that's pretty awesome! The usual weakness of bikes is that they suck at dodging templates (especially mines) and can't take cover. These bikes have ARM 4 and W 2 though so they've got serious inbuilt resilience against such things. Storming them down the table and ramming them into someone's face will be extremely effective when you've got stuff like Kamau linked with Fusiliers for insanely efficient firepower you can use to clear out any overwatch troops with relative ease. I can see why people are disappointed with the AVA but come on, MOV 8-whatever multi-wound guys with good ARM, template attacks, mimetism and a BS 13 BSg that can fight effectively in CC as well? AVA 2 would be problematic, AVA 3 would be insane!
And you might say "well Su-Jians are tougher, and almost as fast, and can take cover, and carry heavier weaponry and also can duo!" And all that is true, but Su-Jians are also highest-to-lowest 14pts more expensive (and if you compare the Paramedic to the Spitfire AKA the two profiles I expect to and are most popular respectively, it's 22pts more expensive), they don't have mimetism, they don't generate free extra orders, they are non-existent in CC and they aren't in a Sectoral which can take this; PanOceania ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 5 KAMAU (Multispectral Visor L2) MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 32) KAMAU HMG / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 28) FUSILIER (Forward Observer, Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) FUSILIER (Forward Observer, Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) FUSILIER Lieutenant Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) 2.5 SWC | 94 Points Open in Infinity Army As their cheap core fireteam option. AVA 1 seems pretty fair, although in MO I expect AVA 2 as they are knights and the MO have less efficient long ranged firepower and rely on aggressive assault options more.
IMO the main problem isn't that the biker is AVA1. The problem is that *apparenty* both spitfire and combi options are AVA0, so to say. And these two are the only models anyone has at the moment. Onther than that, the biker variant is a straight improvement over the old version. P.S. While googling for Montesa Knight mini releases, I found out that the Montesa Spitfire is also a spanish motorcycle from the sixties. Coincidence? I don't think so! XD
As much as I agree with your post overall, I would refrain from using terms like "optimised formula" of list building in Infinity. List building in Infinity is very complex and also depends your own playstyle. Furthermore the missions themselves also have a massive impact on how you shape your list. I believe in optimised trooper profiles but I don't believe there's a standard formula for list building such as the min/maxing of 40k etc. What works for some doesn't work for others and what doesn't work for you shouldn't be discarded as merely "unoptimised".
As much as I don't like it, there exist an optimised list formula. Some factions (Ariadna) can play all missions with the same list. I agree that missions dictate your lists as well, but some elements will remain static. An 8 pts roadblock is not cost-prohibitive investment. Some things are also simply suboptimal choices ( Minutemen, Taqeul etc. - usually profiles bloated with some overcosted skill, like Regeneration or MSV3). Doesn't matter how good we play, they will always be a handicap. Let me put it like this - when I play Bahram, I start with 2 Ghazi and 3 Daylami II, LS+PF, regardless of the mission I play. They're a small investment for a high return. If I could, I'd put the Liberto in there with that group of trash roadblocks. The Liberto should make it into all all-comers list and I'm expecting to see him 20/7 on the tournaments I attend (excluding the first game that I might play versus someone inexperienced).
It is. They can XD You betting on Auxbot's style of wheels? 2 spheres on the bottom of a "cylinder-like" transport? xD It's hard to contend with a Dogged troop costing 5 points, having 2 orders for itself, smoke, two different templates (dmg 13 normal or E/M!), a pistol, and the Jammer with WIP 15 (no LoF required, able to use in ARO, etc...). They fill so many uses at once, it's hard to justify not taking at least 1-2. The Montesa is not really OP because of the bike... just a hit in JSA/YJ's nuts to see a HI with a bike on top, when JSA is the faction with the "fast bikes hat" and YJ is the faction with the "HI hat"... Yeah, I know about Khum and Desperadoes, but the Aragoto were the nasty boys about fast machines running into the gunfight. The Nazarova twins might disagree, but it's like comparing emeralds to rubys anyway :p (model-wise). Use other orders to clear a path. Then send the guy, he can move 30cm in a single order (even if he won't use the Impetuous at the beginning). Use infiltrators to clear the way too: Dart is a great camo-hunter, nagas can have her back, and in generic/varuna you have crocmen, Order Sergeants and Locusts... Not all at once, that is, but you have options. Costing nearly llike 4 times less... Point is the guy's existence also makes it a threat, since he's so cheap you can throw it away against something inside a Combi's range without much remorse, thanks to the DEP. And if he survives to the active turn and is uncloaked, you can place him in Suppresive Fire easily. Depends on the faction. Haqquislam might use him instead of one Daylami, but that faction already has tons of good irregular units for tradeoffs. Nomads can give it a go, depending on the rest of the list (even if a Moderator is 9pts). The Warcors had a fluff & mechanical reason: they were a "3pts tax" on the Campaign system, since they would give you +4 or so in the roll to get another specialization tree (aliens, like the CA and Tohaa, had that bonus integrated in their roll...). Libertos on Vanilla YJ I could dig (they provide the weapons after all), on every vanilla army... What are they doing in Aleph, for example?
I definitely would in Haqq, if I werent so opposed to use non Haqq related MERCS. But changing one Daylami for a Libertos would bring a bunch of new options into the list, while retaining the role of the Daylami. This profile would be an absolute win for my lists. This model has the potential to waste a lot more orders in ARO than a Dalamy and I think other Armies could make a lot of use out of that ability to.
Is the fishboy freedom fighter an exclusive pre-order model for third offensive, or does he come with all book purchases even post November?
As with before books, the fish should be in the book for some months. (As the Brawler in uprising is still available) Nevertheless I preordered today
Why are Helots humanoid? Actually, why are the vast majority of the aliens humanoid? Sometimes I think CB needs to stop watching Ancient Aliens... Also, why the actual fuck do fish-men need goggles?
The goggle might make more sense than it seems at first - eyes in water have very different requirements to eyes in air, after all. For one, eyes in water don't need to be prevented from drying out. For another, depending on exactly how deep Oom generally spend their time, extended exposure to the light of day on the surface might be painful for them, for all they can bear it for short periods. I agree with you on the prevalence of humanoids, though. But in this case the Oom seem to be a reference to Abe Sapien/the guy from Shape of Water, which makes it more palatable.
The short answer is because bipeds fit on 25mm bases better, the long answer is because something something panspermia or bilateral symmetry or convergent evolution or whatever.
Then they should have the goggles on their eyes. I understand that the first reason you give is very likely the answer, but that then leads to stupid fluff reasons (your long answer) to shoehorn it in. I honestly think this is the reason CB will give... Guttier isn't that good of a writer or world builder. Bring on the flames!
Other points not mentioned here are that while initially Curvus designed some less-humanoid-looking Aliens for the CA (like the Caskuda or the first set of CA Drones): - They didn't sell very well. - Were difficult to assemble - The molds for casting the models got damaged faster
Huzzah! Nobody is riding straight dirtbikes yet. And hell no to the Wing-ebagos! Yeah, I'm very not happy about that. Yojimbo would like to say hi. (as he taps you on the shoulder with a CC24 MA4 DA CCW)
