Interesting... Equestrian as a reference to Equites, rather than the modern use of equestrian as it pertains to horseback riding.
Indeed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Holy_Sepulchre#Name 'derived from the Equestrians (Latin: Equites), a social class in Ancient Rome' EDIT - too slow!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Holy_Sepulchre "The term Equestrian in this context is consistent with its use for orders of knighthood of the Holy See, referring to the chivalric and knightly nature of order—by sovereign prerogative conferring knighthood on recipients—derived from the Equestrians (Latin: Equites), a social class in Ancient Rome." lol, third.
Huh. OK, I stand corrected on that point. (and this isn't the YJ or JSA forum, what's with all the Ninjas? ) Were I an ancients player, I might not have made that mistake, but the earliest I game is about 1183 (Gempei War).
I made that point directly to Kanluwen when he was first reacting to the bike news (although it may have been on Dakka Dakka and not here). The name of the Roman social class still comes originally from the root for horses (as in, they descended from the cavalry, presumably being rich enough to own and maintain horses and the land for them) but has no bearing on whether any particular equite in the later Republic/Empires would ride or even own horses.
Anyway more importantly the Acon news has seemingly led to a run on the stock as I'm stuggling to get the last bits I need. How dare other people buy the things I want to buy...
I love a good discussion. I feel like I am wearing out my Like button. Learned something new about the Equestrian Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. I too assumed it was related to horses. I think Motorcycles on Montessa fits. They already are the mechanized deployment unit. Motorcycles are just another form of mechanized deployment. These new profiles just apparently decided to keep their motorcycles with them after they deployed in field. That said, I would have liked to see the new HI biker unit be the Teutons. Bikes also kind of make sense on a crazy assault unit like the Teutons. The main reason I would have rather seen the Teutons, is because Montessa were already a good unit that fulfilled a unique niche, while the Teutons could use some love if they want to see the table.
i mean ewoks are terrifying, they are tiny people eating bears. If drop bears were just ewoks we place down, bolts would be OP
Wasn't there some rumor about varuna hover bikes like.... 3 or 4 years ago? Ocean planet>hoverbike. Makes sense.
So each of the knights of the Holy Sepulchre own a quarter of a million denarii worth of real estate in Rome??
