The Steel Phalanx feels complete and done as a sectorial. All units have miniatures, except for some weapon options and the army does not lack anything that is not intended for it. So I was wondering. Is there anything next for the Steel Phalanx ? I mean in my point of view, the army is complete and everything I would add to it would be something that was not intended for the army to have, like infiltrators or camo units. (Although I feel having DART would be reasonable) I don't think more myrmidon characters would have anything interesting. The only thing I could think about would be the Thorakites officer suggested by Xagroth. Although outside of the campaign format, we are pretty good with Thrasymedes as a solid option. Frankly, I wouldn't feel bad if I was told SP stayed as it is for a forseable future as I feel it stands pretty balanced as it is. I wonder if anyone else feels the same, or if on the contrary some people feel the sectorial is missing something. EDIT : I now feel the title is pretty misleading considering the Ideas I would like to share :S
I agree that SP feels complete. Having another Thora officer (NCO? ;) ) would be nice, but not really necessary. The only thing I'd like to see is Diomedes getting some rework. More often than not I just can't find a niche for him. But maybe that's just me.
I agree a TAG would be nice, I always complain we don't have a light tag in the 70-90 pts range. However I don't see a light TAG fitting in the ultra high tech assault. What I mean by that, is that if you give it ODD / Super Jump you get its price pretty high and you get a marut syndrome again where it takes almost half the list in an already expensive army and even more expensive sectorial.
just make it o-yoroi style, shit bs, smoke nades exp ccw myrm cc statline( maybe natural warrior) with a BS/smg. Thatd be 70-90 pts. To 90 you could probably add odd and or superjump.
We could see a light tag but we could get a completely viable battle tag for about 90 points, either would be good. Either way I would like to see the skip the Multi HMG and go right to the HRMC. More plasma would be neat. A dedicated artillery/speculative fire piece would also be interesting.
Id like to see a fast tag with a shit stat line but an amazing pilot who could jump out, call it the Trojan
I think there are enough 'generic profile' models out to cover everything, so unless there are resculpts, we've probably seen all the Steel Phallus models. A light TAG would be interesting, but how would you make it worth taking over Ajax, though? Ajax is already a Gecko that's only S5 and he's 15pts cheaper than said Gecko in an expensive sectorial. Actually, I just answered my own question. Another Ajax-type but with Mk12, so you could run the Gecko Duo in SP! An approximation of an O-Yoroi might work thematically. Slap Mimetism or ODD on it and it'd be 95 points or so, though. Trojans break under pressure!
That would be all sorts of unspeakably broken, like the Caskuda was in N2... For the folks that started in N3 and missed the "fun", the Caskuda was an Airborne Deployment TAG, that landed in an explosion, when the HMG had +0 from 0-8", +3 from 8-32", -3 from 32-48", and -6 from 48-96" (one gun to rule them all!). You learned really damn quick to always post models watching your guy's backs!
Personally I've no idea, SP seems complete, at least for what concerns his style of play, but I'd like to have another pair of characters just to have more variety, after more than three years I need something new xD.
NWI AD isn't niche enough ? I mean, he can land, take a hit, then do his killing job. Not every AD can do that.
True, the increased durability and Mk12 are nice, but I still find him too similar to what standard Ekdromoi have to offer - and at premium price. But at this point this is pure wishlisting.
I vote for a new non-character Enomotarchos Thorakitai, no doubt about it. We could even use Alke's model...
I think it would be fun to have a non-character Hoplite unit, and maybe even an officer. Something in the general vein of the Daiyokai would be pretty awesome. Not the NWI, necessarily, but solid close combat ability, hard-hitting weapons at medium range or so, and maybe Mimestism as Achilles
