the new hospitallers always struck me as fantastic, so sad bout the magisters in comparison. Kinda hoped they would basically upscale the black friar for them
Yeah, so SOMETHING is getting a price drop soon. My best guesses would be: 1: Order Sergeants going to 12pts (like they should be) 2: Small drop in "add on" weapon costs reducing Crusader Knight cost 3: Anti-synergy of Black Friar bringing the cost down by 1-2 pts It's not a BIG price drop that's needed and those could easily cover it.
For those of us knowing nothing of PanO but are interested in the Knights Hospitallers, just how good is this new 300pt setup from the get go to minimal additions recommended please? I've only just seen this, holds me with a bit of interest much to my wallets demise...
@infy Core link of Hospitallers + Joan is one of best things MO can offer now, individual pieces like Black Friar or HRL sergeant are also useable. It's pretty good foundation to build around. I use at least one model from this box in each of my MO lists, setup from box is also playable (not sure if most optimized one tough). It can be extended by Magister Knight box, some additional order sergeants to do 5 man link of them, Seraph TAG, PanO support and some remotes.
Would say that Hospitaller+Magister link is better due to a bit increased flexibility (due to lower cost), but Joan Hospitaller link isn't bad. @infy All models in the box are good. Joan is a excellent unit even if sometimes it's hard to use her up to her full potential. Hospitallers are current MO "best knights" due to having an HMG (which allows MO to leave DZ) and very usefull (especially in link) doctor option of specialist (who can also carry combi or MR). Black Friar is a bit niche unit, but the more I use him the more I like him. It's can be surprisnglu hard punching especially if he founds he's primary prey (high ARM ODD targets). Biometric visor and albedo are very niche, but can bring some hilarious results if used properly. And worst case you have some decent dropbears. Order Sergeant are a must for MO even if used as TOFOOS (TO Forward Observer Order Sergeant), and HRL/Assault Pistol OS with an Auxbot is one of the hardest-punching unit you can get for less than 20 pts. Current OS hacker is a bit od dead weight (due to him being unlinkable you almost always take HD Fusilier). I dont use Crusaders (due to personal preference and his rather high cost), but in ITS 10 they might have a second thought. Also mind that he have quite hard-hitting MR and LFT. All in all this box seems very good value to anyone wanting to start MO, and the list created out of it while not being terribly super-optimized (hard to do so with WYSWIG boxes) is by no means bad ;) To play most of what MO can offer you only need Magister box and possibly MO starter box (for TO sniper) and one-two blisters depending on your preferences (Father Knight, de Fersen, Montesa knight) or if you happen to like Santiago Knights then a box of them (they are old but models are still very good).
Not very. It has glaring weaknesses as it's a 10 Order Setup with AD, which is questionable at best. The Hospitaler Link is an all bags in one basket thing with a secondary Achilles heel. Usually you're just afraid the Link might just get wiped out and leaves you at a massive disadvantage. But here you also are running your unprotected LT up the field. Death of Joan or her getting Isolated can both spell the end immediately. The list has to rely solely on the Hospitaler HMG and Crusader with 9 Orders to work with to cross the board on top. If those 2 die or find themselves in bad positions you'll struggle fighting basic Snipers, not to mention dedicated AROs. Linked Hospitalers are good value but lack defensive capabilities. They have no secondary guns to compliment their kit past BSG/Rifle Ranges which makes them vulnerable despite PH14 BS14 ARM4. Magisters Links solve all the above problems at a significantly lower price. No Lt running up the board. Not stuck with a low Order List. Amazing AROs under almost all circumstances. You'll have a new Problem as MO has to bring a Lt who will very likely be an obvious one, but there isn't much you can do about it. That said the full Hospitaler Link tends to perform rather well when going first in Direct Action, but tends to fold quickly going second or in missions with heavy button pushing/2nd turn scoring. Overall the issue is they're fun, but very inconsistent in performance. If you don't care about that, replace the Crusader with something and you're set.
I would honestly say that this box and the magister's box will be a great starting point for mo. Gives you a good chunk of the units you will want to use, and the opportunity to get to grips with our main problem of how the hell do we get out of our deployment zone?!? Yes it has weaknesses, and I wouldn't want to run it as a list on its own, but it definitely has potential, especially if you are happy with some light proxying. @eciu i really agree with you on the Blackfriar, he never fails to disappoint, and I am really enjoying using him. He has been my mvp in quite a few games, even successfully taking down a su jian! Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk
Well I cannot grave enough for a Black Friar MSR that is has nothing going for it ;/ (except for obvious MSV2) I wish BF MSR had albedo too ;(
I wish he would have Albedo, BV1, and a different weapon. Albedo MSR would be a tad too good at taking out MSV ARO troops.
Onyx Contact Force ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 1 OVERDRON 2 Plasma Snipers / . (2 | 69) STALDRON Flash Pulse / Knife. (0 | 0) 2 SWC | 69 Points Open in Infinity Army Our single MSR is too good combo with a Albedo.
Point taken, though BF is over 2x cheaper. Overdron has to be better given its cost. Still, it doesn't change the fact that BF MSR is boring as hell, even if it gives MO that ranged MSV2.
Yes, just pointing out that BF MSR Albedo wouldn't be broken in any way. Its funny how Black Friar MR Albedo is reversted intruder. It's quite crappy when compared to intruder and that should say something ^^
Yeah, add in a Magister box and maybe another box of the Order Sergeants and you've got a viable and flexible selection of units for army construction. Pick up some Remotes and you are basically "there" in terms of what you need to play the whole faction. Everything else is single blister pickups (like other Knight choices). This is a great starter box.
Do people think we will keep the Knights of montesa given they are getting rid of saa? Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk
They are top of my list for "most likely single in a blister" (or maybe double blister) release as part of the "goodbye".
Fair. I know so little about the French or wider Ariadna, I had no idea what had happened in similar circumstances to set precedent. Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk
