Yeah, but MSR-wise... Now that the options are AP or DA at burst 1, it's hardly the AT gun it used to be when the burst 1 shot was AP + DA.
And which one are these so popular ARM 7 TAGs ? The Seraph ? The Gorgos ? The only ARM7 TAG which may be a bit popular is the O-Yoroi, and it's very specific. And all these TAG are bad in reactive turn, without a decent ARO weapon (except the disposable flammenspear for the gorgos) Of course when facing anything that is not on top of armor, you would choose DA over AP, i expect that most would know that. But when facing ARM8+ it's another story, and that was the topic. Linked MSR can do that, but it's not the best. Unlinked MSR should not even try, there are to many risks of wasting orders for nothing or getting the troop killed by the powerful EXP round most heavy TAG have. Better bet on our powerful hacking game than on long range AP shots to handle those TAGs.
I don't want to derail this thread, but again, that is your opinion, and not universally shared. I don't deny that those factions have a lot of interesting and cool stuff, but it depends on what an individual is interested in. Trying to say nomads can compete with PanO on the TAG front is a little far fetched. If you like Heavy Infantry, again Nomads + Haqq + Tohaa + Ariadna, not the best place to look. TO camo? Auxbots. Posthumans? Netrods? Martial arts? ODD equipped soldiers that wear pants? I mean a lot of these no longer have the new shiny syndrome, but there are playstayles available that Nomads + Haqq + Tohaa + Ariadna are not the best at. So it is perfectly fine to say you prefer Nomads + Haqq + Tohaa + Ariadna, but realize there are people who don't find those factions interesting and perhaps like PanO + Aleph + JSA. There is probably even at least two or three people that like the Frenchies
What is old and what is new from OSS? Anything here I should wait for an updated model for? What has come out recently that is a must have?
Easy to break it down for OSS. New Everything in Coldfront and its expansion set Dakini SWC Box Garuda Spitfire and BS Proxy Box (Mk4 and Mk5) Andromada Rebots Danavas Karkata Dart Asura Multi Rifle/Hacker Old Naga Hacker and Monomines Dasyus (all of them) Asura Spitfire Deva/Devabot Box Proxy Box (Mk1, Mk2, and Mk3) Yudbots Netrods Sophotects Marut Its unknown what will be resculpted if anything at the moment. The old Aleph models are still good models and are some of the best hand sculpted models in my opinion. As for must haves... anything really.
Don't forget the impending Daikini SWC box. edit: and the Garuda Spitfire is the new one, not the HMG
There's also the beyond cold front box coming in nov/Dec (whichever the dakini box isnt) And the new Asura with Multi rifle and hacking device coming in october
By release, yes. However, the Monomines Naga is a non-CAD model (as far as I know) which means old with the new models coming out.
CB agrees with you, PanO gets surprise Jammer. Gotta reevaluate the Yadus now, Veteran will be MUCH more important, it seems. Unidron Fireteam is a defensive castle. The Dakinis one is more multipurpose, tending to prefer closer ranges or needing other troops to add range to their weapons (since they roll with HMG or Sniper MULTI only... not that 2 HMG are something to scoff at). Unidrons can go easily for 2x missiles +2x FO +1 K1 combi. Add 3 from cover that won't we negated unless you use template weapons... Remeber, "humble" ARM5 HI goes up to 8 while in cover, and it goes down to 6 against AP, and I think 10% tends to be considered worse than an extra dice, frankly. Geckos ARM5, Iguana ARM6, Anaconda ARM6, Scarface ARM5, Sphynx ARM6, Overdron BLI 6, Xeodron BLI5...There are not many ARM7 troops in the game.
Yup, and versus these one, you would choose DA over AP for sure (or template depending on the weapon). But against ARM8+, AP is probably a better choice, depending on the situation
Dam 15 DA is just as good or better than Dam 15 AP against anything in the game, if it's out of cover. For example, against ARM 10, a normal Dam 15 AP hit has a 10/20 chance to inflict 1 wound, so the average damage is 0.5. DA only has a 5/20 (0.25) chance to inflict a wound, but you get two rolls, so the average damage is still 0.5. The DA has a 56.25% chance of dealing no damage, compared to 50% for AP, but equally has a 6.25% chance of dealing double damage. And DA is just strictly better if you crit. If they ARE in cover, the break even point is ARM 8, with 0.4 average damage for both AP and DA normal hits. ARM 9+ in cover is the only time average wounds inflicted is higher for Dam 15 AP than Dam 15 DA. Even then, if you are at such an extreme penalty that criticals dominate your possible hit results, it might still be worthwhile to use DA, but that's a real edge case.
