I am a little confused by the wording here: "Change Facing works like the Dodge Skill in Reactive Turn, but the Roll to use it is PH-3 and the user does not get to Move on a success, only turn around so that the active enemy is inside his LoF." Does this mean that say I use Alert, and that lets me change facing to face an opponent that is shooting at me (obviously not the model that has performed the alert, but an ally that is benefiting from the Alert), my roll to change facing is also a dodge roll?
To be fair, that one example seems to imply that Angus had no LOF to Ortega, and that Ortega was outside of his Zone of Control (more than 20cm/8 inches between the bases). So Bipandra declaring Alert allows Angus to have an ARO, since otherwise he would have to eat the bullets without being able to do anything (and then, if he survived, he would be able to rotate).
I think no, he is asking if he can use a model to ARO Alert so another of his models can do Dodge instead of Change Facing. The example comes to say "you could do nothing but eat bullets, but Bipandra yelled at you and that made you Change Facing against Ortega". At least, that's the way I understand those :S
to me, this last bit asked to clarify that the "Dodge Change Face" gained from the "Alert" ARO could also be used to avoid the incoming attack instead of just turning around. From the wiki: "As everything happens in the same Order, the roll to Change Facing can be a Face to Face Roll against the trooper in Active Turn, if this declared an Attack against the troopers declaring Change Facing." emphasis mine.
You cannot declare an ARO by itself against a troop outside of your Zone of Control and Line of Fire, unless you have Sixth Sense N2, what you say is, while true, not applicable to the example on the wiki.
From the wiki: This allows Angus to declare an ARO, Change Facing, to turn around towards Ortega. Then, the Alguacil declares his second Skill of the Order, BS Attack. Assuming Angus passes his PH-3 Face to Face Roll, he not only will Dodge the Attack, but also he will enjoy LoF against Ortega. So, the next time the Alguacil declares an Order, Angus will be able to respond to any incoming fire from his arch-enemy. emphasis mine
Seriously... read everything please. A Dodge roll is at PH value, if Angus is rolling at PH-3 he is Change Facing. And he can do such only because of Bipandra's Warning. So if he success in his change facing roll (PH-3) and wins the FtF, he dodges the attack (not as Dodge, since he already rolled) and then can rotate and gain LoF to Ortega.
FTFY. Not Warning, -->> Alert. Warning is relevant to the OP, however; http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Warning @G Stargrave you don't need to commit your fireteam to the generally inferior Change Facing. Rely on Sixth Sense to allow you to shoot back using Pistols (Celestial Guard can either Combi Rifle or shoot their Smoke Grenade Launcher) and for any member not attacked (with no LOF) they can simply use Warning since they are nearly guaranteed to be in ZoC of someone attacked. Remember that using Alert is an ARO which will probably result in members being kicked from the fireteam due to minority ARO decisions.
So if I am to understand correctly: As an example... an enemy wanders into my LOF and as an ARO I declare an Alert! That enemy model then declares a BS attack on a different model than the one that was calling the Alert! The model that is being attacked, and is being attacked from outside its 180 forward facing, can, because of the Alert!, change facing to face the model shooting at it, by passing a WIP check, and because it is being shot at, the WIP check is face to face. The results of the WIP check are a success, and not only does the model being shot at change facing, but they also, due to the successful WIP check, dodge the attack. If the one being shot at failed the face to face WIP check, it would have taken the full brunt of the attack in the back, no dodge, no changing face.
PH-3 AND it's going to be a Face to Face roll. You nees to win the Face to Face with the Change Facing model in order to avoid attacks. Ex: 1st skill: Enemy Moblot walks around corner to have LOF to a Warcor and a Marut. The Warcor has LOF to Moblot but Marut does not. 1st ARO: Warcor declares Alert. Marut can thus declare Change Facing. 2nd skill: Moblot declares BS Attack distributing 1 HMG shot on Warcor and 3 on the Marut. Rolls: Moblot rolls 2 against Warcor, 1, 9, and 18 against Marut. Warcor can't roll Marut rolls PH-6 (-3 for Change Facing and -3 for being a TAG) and rolls an 8, a success but lower than the Moblits 9. Result: Warcor makes an ARM roll of 14 and nets a result of 18 due to cover and makes it. Marut lost Face to Face and has to make an ARM roll since they canceled one of the Moblots hits. A roll of 1 is not sufficient inspite of the Maruts awesome ARM. Marut takes 1 STR and both Warcor and Marut resolves Guts Rolls. Marut has Courage and chooses to fail their roll but finds there is no improved cover in range and can not turn to face the Moblot! Please note how the Alert made the Warcor take normal rolls! In hindsight, tge Warcor could have attempted a Flash Pulse to challenge the normal attacks and potentially stop that attack vector while the Marut could have trusted it's very high ARM to survive and made use of Warning to turn around.
