I play him occasionally in vanilla. But he's primarily for Steel Phalanx anyway, where there is no competition.
Eh... it's not quite as good as a Sniper, at all. Active turn you're looking at 50% chance to defeat a TR HMG through smoke versus a MSnipe's 70%, reactive turn it's much worse and even further if the Bao is in a fireteam. Going back to your other point about optimization, if I were to make actual changes I'd stick a Assault Hacker on the BioV+BSG profile and an Killer Hacker on the MSV+BSG profile. Why not both? People seem to dislike Veteran skill, but it makes perfect sense to Bao. No, scratch that. Religious makes more sense. They make Muttas seem like reasonable and grounded individuals and make the Pan-O knights seem like atheists compared to a Bao's devotion to the Emperor. However, if you had Bravery in mind, I'd like to remind you that if you want to make their link options relevant, the Pheasant is still Light Infantry.

There is plenty of MI that able to link with other types of troops now anyways. It's not like its impossible to keep cohension with part of fireteam being deployed 4inches further away.
Bao are fine, IMO. The Sniper is especially very reasonable and the most commonly seen profile anyway.

Did you read what was written? It's not as good at extreme rangebands compared to the sniper is what's been said. Also it's 4 points more expensive than it should be given the equipment it's got.
How much should it cost to be fair? If they dropped LSG would they need to find 4 points somewhere else to keep it priced high enough?
More along the lines of correct point costs. Then again you have to make them MI, 4-2, and ARM 2 to get these changes (aka me reading the post wrong to begin with :P).
