Same question as in title. What do you all think of the news? I've only given it some brief thought... only Character we have is Sun Tze, so he gets to be a Veteran too now, and our ''only'' ( One of our two only, if you count Sun Tze V2 as actually existing. ) MI unit doesn't get much use out of Forward Deployment Lv1... although, I'd say Tigers might be pretty happy about being able to land more precisely? Just opening up a thread for discussing things.
We also have Xi as a character. Tigers being able to drop in narrow spaces to help avoid aros is nice, but depending on the terrain it’s value is questionable.
He doesn't show up as being classified as a Character. At least the Classification filter sees him as a Line Troop, not a Character, anyways. The amount of times I didn't have enough room to place a template for a perfect drop point is too high for me not to consider this change amazing already.
Thats really not necessary, as in previous seasons these are minor modifications to the game, making it run more smoothly in the case of AD and shifting balance in a very minor way with chararcters, (verteran on char is not the skill veteran just the classification, you'd be forgiven for not noticing any change at all) that narrative of victimhood is just mean spirited, nothing else
If you think advanced deployment on every MI is "a very minor advantage", I don't know what to tell you.
Datatracker buff plus AD buff is very very good. Yu Jing have some very good data tracker options and tigers dropping on 15 with support into little nooks can be pretty brutal. Making getting a light flamethrower where it needs to be even easier. What you guys are also forgetting is we have a heavy infantry drop troop coming early season, who will love being able to drop almost anywhere, probably on 16 or more with support. Haven't looked at the classifieds much, but we don't play highly classified so not really fussed. The datatracker buff helps some of the few veteran troops we have.
Well, there is one that requires an HI or MI unit to do a WIP roll ( Not sure about MODs. ) on the enemy HvT in their ZoC, so... HI faction is happy. Oh, and another where any X-Visor, Biometrcis Visor, Multispectral Visor or Sensor unit has to do the same, with positive MODs if within LoF... so basically Hsiens, Cranes, Pheasants, Baos, Zhanyings, Guilangs, Weibings and Rui Shis are pretty happy too.
Few months ago on these very forums we were discussing how a core link team would never get FD2, because it'd be overpowered as all hell. Guess what Ariadna just got thanks to ITS 10.
Basically only Tigers get a real benefit tbh. It's fair to say that YJ have been slightly left out from a buff on TAGs and MI, I'll grant you that.
The FD on MI is a big deal, just we don't get much access to it. It might be nice for multi terrain tigers, but the big AD boost renders it moot. It's one of the times our penchant for transferring MI duties to either LI or HI doesn't benefit us. Followup, HVT identity check seem to be good choices for us. Xenotech usage shouldn't be a problem. Frostbyte definitely plays to our strengths. Q1 is about half the season away.
I can see some currently underplayed things now being played more frequently, and sure marauders are an outlier, they get a significant buff, but then they are in that awkward high 20s point bracket and had little appeal pre S10, taking 5 is pretty big commitment I think you'll agree. FD1 makes little difference in my experience even en masse... unless you are foolish enough to null deploy against it.
I still dislike the TAG oriented missions considering all the factions without TAG, they should have an alternative to achieve the same amount of points. LI is awesome but needs some changes to help factions with severe problems in that mode like USARF or MRRF.
How do HQ Troops like Hsien or Spec. Trained Troops like Su Jian get affected by the Veteran/Elite Troop change? Not at all? I mean, do they want to tell me that the Pheasant CoC is ranked higher for certain things than the Big Frikin Hsien? Edit: Not that I want to abuse my Su Jian Datatracker... ISS still awesome!
New classifieds seems to be mostly a nod towards Pan-O, it favours factions with less prominent specialists and I do think Yu Jing takes second place to Pan-O in that regard as well. Unlike the Ironclad rule, I don't think Bravery is well thought through at all. I think the small buff it provides lands unevenly without analysis for what units are ailing and what units are not - particularly since CB has proven with Yadu and a few others that they have solved the problem of how to make really good MI (not to mention that they've removed the thing that MI gets a discount because of, the slower second movement, on a lot of them). Landing Zone is essentially a must, as we're seeing dense boards with lots of doodads making landing in anything resembling a favourable spot nearly impossible. Basically, if Bravery got applied to AD infantry forgoing to use AD instead of MI, I think it'd work a LOT better. If we're looking at early Q1, I think we'll see the profiles spoiled during christmas season with profiles playable in Vanilla through dead of winter until proper release, similar to OSS' current state with most new profiles available. (Counting profiles, and slotting in the knowns together with box art, on release I predict IA will be filled out with an additional 3 characters and 2 units, I'm sort of expecting one of the characters to be Sun and those two units to be Aleph loans)
Last I checked January is 4 months away. And the season has just started. 4/12 is 1/3 of the way through the season. Unless you're expecting invincible to release at the end of the quarter? I thought we'd got pretty compelling evidence it would be Jan with taste in Dec?
"It's going to be a rough year for vanilla Yu Jing" said in April of 2018. If you're going to fix the problem in 9 months, you don't call it a rough year coming!
