I've had losses where I was already down 5/6-0 and it was only turn 1 with me yet to play - but I've already lost datatracker, and two specialists and regardless of anything I could do, I was still going to lose. There was no way to claw back a draw and even a minor loss was out of the question. I just push for retreat (where it counts) by the end of my opponent's turn 2 (if I'm going 2nd). The best I can do is to prevent him getting a final turn to grab remaining objectives. It's more "kuang shi" mode than a concession. You can't kill me if I'm already dead.
The person who concedes is not playing competitively. Why, you may ask. Simple, because there are 3 layers to scoring in ITS: - Win - Gain as many points as possible - Prevent the opponent from getting as many points as possible If you can't achieve 1, you should aim for 2, and then for 3. That's because even if you lose, your opponent may eventually lose a game as well, and then the difference that you can directly influence in your game versus him might just be enough to tip the scales in your favour. In a tournament setting I always pay until the end, even if simply to achieve objective 3. Sometimes it even means I claw a lucky win. There is no good solution for concede in the current ITS framework. A bye is unfair, 10-0 might seem fair to the person granted the points but is unfair to all the others who are fighting for their points and it skews the standings. People should just be taught that obj 3 on my list actually exists and conceding a game in a tournament settings hurts them twice.
Luckily that has never happend on one of my tournaments, but my ruling is the following, should if ever happen: - The conceding player counts as having 0 OP and 0 surviving army points - The conceding player skips all of his turns and AROs - The remaining player can play the rest of his turns to achieve mission objectives and secondarys - The remaining player gets the OP and surviving army points counted after he finished his last turn
Seriously, the bye was more of a factor than your famously impulsive decision making, flaky tactics, bad strategy, misguided list building and shitty dice rolling? Man, I wish I could use that excuse and keep a straight face
So you’re getting them to walk through whatever they’re able to do, albeit without opposition - to prove they could theoretically have won the points they’re gaining? This seems quite a good idea to me; have others tried it?
If given the choice between all my flaws or blaming CB.... However in this case the new guy everyone else farmed for points was pretty discouraged and dropped before it was my turn to farm him. Even though I was undefeated those missing farmed points kept me from first.
He outright insulted another poster in the post I'm replying to. Why does he get to generally be a shitheel but as soon as anyone calls him out you guys tell people to stop?
This seems like the simplest solution, though of course it could depend on the mission. In a killing game it would just result in a 10-0. In a button pushing game, it would just be a matter of seeing if the number of orders available is enough to accomplish objectives. They don't really need to, just play it as if it was a full tabling
Given the context of whole discussion (including the reply) it looks like two people who know each other so the discussion is a friendly jab.
I'll not repeat what @psychoticstorm said, just point that you don't need to call any forum user "shitheel".
Yes, thank you @psychoticstorm that's a correct reading of my post: it's well-known that @Andre82 and I disagree about play style but are also capable of sharing jokes together anyway - the Flying Monkey Bottom exchange was memorable. Personally, I think that good humour between people who disagree is in the best spirit of the game, but I understand that such a nuanced relationship can be threatening to people less sophisticated and intelligent - not to mention handsome and dashing, as Andre82 and myself certainly are.
The mods won't warn you for this even though it reeks of kicking someone while they're already down, it seems like they've already picked a side to me It's akin to sticking your tongue out at someone after you have your dad break his legs.
Dude can leave/pack up his/her things, you just continue spending orders and fulfilling missions. Have some TO stay there and see what you are doing, and that's it. Imo.
Yup. He's gotten increasingly flagrant about it too, as it's become clear that the mods have given him carte blanche to insult people.
Related to the last messages, there's no user with "carte blanche" to insult anyone, so please, avoid that kind of accussations. If you have any problems with any user you're highly welcomed to contact me in private. I highly ask to turn back to the original topic of the thread, please.
