Sanity check on Designate Antenna (Grid)

    Before the old forums get purged I just want to check on this answered question's meaning

    "16. THE GRID: Can an Antenna in the Damaged state still be Designated? ANSWERED yes"

    Is this referring to a model may attempt to designate an already destroyed Antenna, or is it referring to an already destroyed Antenna continuing to count towards a player's designated antenna count?

    EDIT: I think I've sorted this one out in my head now that I've looked over the game state rules, and I assume the above FAQ was brought up because the mission rules specify that destroyed antennas still count but doesn't make any mention of Damaged.

    (also did whether or not being able to designate antennas on turn 1 ever get resolved? Because they're untargetable until turn 2).

    Damaged is not the same as destroyed.

    Damaged is the equivalent of unconscious but for scenery. They reach this state when they are at exactly 0 wound (http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Damaged) . The antenna marker is still there and can still be designated.

    If it take one more wound, it's destroyed and then you remove the marker so no interaction possible.

    I would be curious to have an answer to your second question

    Uh, that link also specifies an Engineer may repair the scenery item. But that's been FAQ'd as not allowed. I don't know if that link applies to scenario objectives as a whole.

    Also I don't think you remove Scenery Objectives as they are frequently represented as a model, p.176 of the rules states

    "EFFECTS
    »»If the Scenery Item or the piece of Equipment was represented
    by a Marker, simply remove it from play. If it was
    a physical piece of scenery, place a Destroyed Marker
    (DESTROYED) beside it."

    You just chuck a different marker next to it.

    Don't let a scenario specific faq cast doubt on everything it touches or you won't ever get an answer.

    Basically: this is a scenario, it'll do funky stuff to spice things up, just roll with it and apply minimum amount of changes necessary to the main rules to accomodate the scenario rules and get it to make sense.

    I think I've got it sorted out now.

    Following scenery rules and game states, Antennas go to Damaged at 0 wounds, and Destroyed after that. Neither state removes the Antenna from the table.

    Scenario rules state that Destroyed Antennas still count as Designated.

    FAQ states that Damaged Antennas are also Designated.

    Scenario rules state that Designated Atennas may be Designated again. No specification on any type of game state preventing this, so Damaged/Destroyed Atennas are fair game.

    Destroyed have been confirmed to not be targetable if I don't miss my mark.

    It's not in that FAQ as far as I can find. Can you remember where you saw that?

    EDIT: Also double checked the Destroyed entry under game states, it's not there either.

    Appreciate it if you could look later. I've searched it again but the only thing I can find is about the Targetted state for Antennas which isn't relevant.

    9 antenna, times 2 tables if another pair of player wants to play the same mission on the same night = we are using markers.
    that would be what i'd expect. Objective marker are removed from the table when you destroy the antenna and therefore you cannot FO/base contact it anymore. The same gameplay should be happening when using scenery. Although the other way arround could work, placing a Destroyed marker next to your Antenna marker but that would directly go against what we are told to do with scenery markers.

    Personally I have 6 40mm objectives and I'm getting another 3, you'd figure between 2 players you could manage it.

    I have some specifically so I don't have to use tokens. Back in the day around here you had to bring them as part of your army for 40K. I've bought some nice Infinity style ones now of course.

    I can't find it. It appears no one has asked this, the presumption previously has been that antenna with no STR left can't be Designated, HellLois corrected that to also include Damaged, but I can't find anyone presuming to ask if a Destroyed objective can be Designated.

    Let's ask it in the ITS thread and see if HellLois picks up on it.

    EDIT:
    "Once an Antenna has been Destroyed, it cannot be Destroyed again by any player."​
    Seems like a tautology and I suspect it should be
    "Once an Antenna has been Destroyed, it cannot be Designated again by any player."

    Also under scenery rules if it’s a marker it is removed. So if you’re using objective markers as opposed physical item it would be removed.

    Could be they are assuming that state carried over?

    I asked this when it was ruled that a Damaged Antenna could still be re-designated, and got radio silence IIRC.
