A forward harrasement unit with viral/shock capability. Cheaper than locusts, deadlier than drop bears. Good, I like her already.
Been thinking about her since GenCon. I like the Viral Mines, and Mimetism + Scavenger means she can trade her weaponry up pretty easily. There's some appeal there, especially if she created unexpected factors for opponents who weren't expecting her. SMGs remain versatile, and there aren't a ton of convenient places where NCA can get shock+AP short of bringing a big boy MULTI rifle, so I like that versatility.
I think shes better hunting Hi woth the combo. 2 bts rolls on the viral mines makes em uniqeuly placed to seriously worry bigger tougher pieces but qont outright kill anything with 2w or more allowing her scavenger to kick in. Same goes for the 2 smgs, b4 ap will put dents in 2w units but wont overkill then the way it will 1w units. And i think you are right in that even thouhh she lacls a marker state she is yet another non swc attack piece in a sectorial that can really leverage swc defensively and she is therefore valuable due to that alone
No argument on any of that. Coming around the corner with those SMGs and a Viral Mine detonation is pretty severe against even the hardest targets, forcing a ton of saves. As you say, for a Sectorial whose SWC tends to focus on defensive/long range weapons, she fits nicely in the bucket of troops who can be leveraged for short range duty. NCA is already in good shape there with CSU, Auxilia, and both the shotgun Bulleteer and shotgun peacemaker, but she's still a slight step up from all of those, something a bit more versatile and unpredictable, and I think that versatility is a really big help for the otherwise static NCA. Forward Deployment isn't so much about being a worse Infiltration, but more about letting her pick a spot where she can advance and do work without having TO or smoke. And Scavenger... It's a hard skill to put face value on, but it's one more difficult element that an opponent needs to account for, like a good Metachem roll. And... Mines. I mean come on, mines are amazing. I start Acon specifically because I was tired of opponents Camo Sneaking or Smoke Walking past my NCA troops, and feeling like my only recourse was pricey drop bear platforms. Viral mines in the Sectorial is a great tool on a unit that's relatively cheap. I'm gonna try her in NCA on Thursday, just to see how she handles.
You were having trouble with camo in nca? Interesting. Im finding with all the DTWs and high fugazi ava+fantastic sensor platforms that midfield camo is a death sentence for my opponents... Just a side note really
Not in the active turn. In the active turn, NCA can hunt anything. But reactively, I won't complain about having viral mines now.
Sure but with camo being unable to recamo in sensor area i find they solve both active and reactive. I do like the viral mines. Definitely the best thing going for aida
I like her. 24 pts is pretty cheap, there's a lot of CQB potential here, will be pretty interesting to play. Sure, she's not perfectly optimized, but who cares? It's not like only the units with perfect combination of skills see play. It's not W40k.
Yeah I think I broadly agree here. I think that this kind of offensive option will be useful for NCA, and she might even have a role in some Vanilla lists who already maxxed their Krakot allocation. Well, that'd be because she is a poor mans Ryuken 9. Mimetism instead of ODD, less Forward Deployment, SMG armament, the comparison was always going to happen and in this case I think it's pretty clear that outside of very narrow niche situations this deep infiltrator is not as good as the Japanese manga star. I mean, thanks to MA1 she's statistically better in CC than a Locust... but that's not really saying much. Both units sit in the very worst of the CC design space, where they are investing fairly significantly in points but it's still never a good option unless it's forced on you by a much better unit. Yeah, I think this is going to see some use in PanOceania.
Scavenger is pretty much the sole reason why I want to give her a try. The rest of her kit is nothing special, but looting either a gun or something that makes her a Specialist (Medkit/Hacking Device) could be worth the bloat. Unfortunately SMG/Viral Pistol/Viral Mines kinda go against Scanvenger. Her kit is also pretty deadly against Ariadna, just a shame it doesn't have anything to help fighting Camo.
Guys, come on! We got a nice new unit with unusual skillset, not just another combi+mimetism, and you are still whining? The 1st and the only SMG in NCA and the 2nd SMG in the whole PanO. Another unit to deploy outside of DZ, making it easier to cover Peacemaker and Locust. Semi-unique for the whole game viral mines and viral pistol. Plus the 1st scavenger in PanO. For me it's an another mark of CB suddenly giving us some love. Since our local tables are very dense, i can easily make use of dat mines killing turtlered firetaems in central buildings so my NCA won't ever leave home without Aida.
I'm still waiting on the "She's not REALLY PanO and she doesn't wear a blue hat so her addition doesn't count and I choose not to use her - therefore CB hates PanO" crowd XD
Honestly, I just like that she's a Swanson. My fluff for her is that to adapt to human culture, she watched like all the Park and Recs episodes and was like "Ron Swanson is the apex of mankind."
Critical discussion is not whining just because it leads to a statement of the limitations on that ruleset. Particularly not when its fairly accurate. As to her being the 2nd SMG access in PanO, well not really, not when you count Kamau, Krakots, Jagers and dart
