None of which actually matter except the last paragraph which only serves to strengthen my argument. That the Ninja and several other units are old enough to harken back to an age in Infinity when there were no more role-appropriate weapons is only an explanation, not an excuse, for why they arent designed with the same level of intent. The Ninja doesn't have a real life equivalent. An organization that mainly operates as bonafide assassins probably have even more CQB and weight restrictions than SEALs. As for logistics, take that up with CB. Why doesn't the SMG use the same bullets as pistols? No idea. It should.
We've been over this several times. Ninjas (historical ones) aren't just assassins/surprise attackers (kishu). They were also saboteurs, scouts (teisatsu), rabble-rousers/agitators (konran), and spies (kancho). (Not to forget that SEALs often carry 80+lbs of extra gear with them on deep recon missions... Light infantry they ain't.) I think the current Ninja profiles are OK for surprise attackers. CCW for an assassination, combi for escaping. If you swap the combi for an SMG, that will save ~5pts over a combi. Costs you in the 8-16 and 32+ range bands, though. A saboteur may want an even lighter weapon, just to make up for the massive quantities of demolitions they may carry. Since they carry lots of demo, they already have a way to get through doors in a hurry, making shotguns unlikely. SMG or Assault pistol would be a likely choice. I'd want to give a saboteur Engineer and grenades, probably smoke, too. An SMG Engineer would be the same cost as a current combi Ninja. A scout is going to want a lightweight rifle that gives him some range, but the scope on the rifle might be more important than the rifle itself. This is not necessarily a sniper-class weapon, but might be. I'd generally class it more as a Marksman rifle than the full MSR. Maybe a Mk12, since the stereotypical Scout Rifle uses MG ammo, but I don't know if any 'mere mortals' use a Mk12. Could be grounds for an XVisor. A marksman rifle Ninja would be ~40pts without a visor, not much savings. I think the Ninja hackers kinda fall into the Konran type, so they're not bad as-is. Spies rarely use big weapons, but when they do it's because the major shooting has started. While you might make a case for someone using a found weapon, I assume that Infinity weapons have biometric locks that prevent unauthorized users. So your standard ninja profile.
Yes, we've been over it. Kishu is what we have, Kishu is what we got and you can try to make them perform as Konran, Kancho or Teisatsu if you like but that's not the gear they have. You'll have to go Guilang if you want those roles filled optimally while ISS is probably better off cramming Kanren into those roles, because as far as ideal skill set the Ninja has almost none of the skills to fulfil those roles and the justification for a Ninja being those roles can also be applied to nearly any unit in game. I would love to have had Konran in Yu Jing, but JSA has left us. I just don't think it's worthwhile trying to get the Ninja to be something it is not, and it makes for a good Kishu. Not as good as Oniwaban, but Oniwaban is gone. As it is, enhancing what they are and what they do makes more sense in my opinion, and because of the Oniwaban being gone Kishu now suddenly makes a tonne of sense while the others do not. Mk12 is too heavy for a normal human, yes. Need to be jacked up on something to use one, and I'm not certain power armour is sufficiently jacked up.
"Mk12 is too heavy for a normal human, yes. Need to be jacked up on something to use one, and I'm not certain power armour is sufficiently jacked up." Ironicly enough I could see Bandit/Irmanhdino using one after they scavanged it from the enemy body.
You'd think so but we're talking about the setting where Metro's jacket provides the same type of armor against small-arms fire as Zhansi armor.
Yuan yuans are specifically noted as often crewing space ships with no artificial gravity, and they are ph 14. The gear in the future must be amazing.
Well, Karakuri are only PH10 and pack a Mk12, but probably don't have surface-pain sensors to be screaming from the recoil. But good armor should direct the hit to the point that you cannot feel it (I know a guy who has a replica of HenryV's plate armor, he cannot wear it in the SCA because he cannot feel a hit from a baseball bat). So give the teisatsu Ninja Scout a Marksman Rifle, and maybe a visor. Problem is that a Sharksman Rifle and MSV is the same cost as an MSR. No savings there, so might as well go for the MSR and call it good. No change overall. I still really think we should have Ninja Saboteurs. Give them a SMG, Engineer+D-Charges, and Grenades, same cost as a current Ninja w/ combirifle. If you don't exercise your ass off (2-3 hours/day, every day) in zero gee, you lose muscle and bone. It's not pleasant.
I took a look again at the Yuan Dun. There are things in there I think we might see in IA and ISS at some point. One that caught my eye was the Duo of Weibing + RUI SHI. Not so much for this actual combo but just the fact that it’s a Duo of Remotes. I really like the Duo of Weibing and Su-Jian. I can just imagine leading with the Weibing to use Sensor on camo troops to then the the Su-Jian coming up to take them out. Or, maybe going right with Sat-Lock if you have an EVO and then the Su-Jian has a +3 against those now targeted Camo troopers. Something I’d really like, they don’t have it Yuan Dun but there’s a suggestion of it being possible, allowing a Guijia to Duo with a Weibing would fantastic! There is already some precedence with Scarface and Cordelia in Druze. Better pictures will come soon, I'm sure, but that's some very very interesting... combat... heels... Does... that mean... GLaDOS confirmed for Yu Jing?
Why not, Yu Jing could use some more waifu material. And don't you dare say GLaDOS is not waifu material.
So these are our cheaper filler bois. Probs with options for counter Intel, coc and the like by the name.
With mines, sniper and heels seemingly designed for super-jump, i'd say the only thing it controls is the board.
