And not that long ago, ALEPH proper was considered to be too specialized for a 2 player set as well...

Point is: things change. Red Veil and Coldfront both are effectively 'backdoors' for Sectorial armies to get their starter sets.

I dont think that within the 6 months since they said Tohaa is a sectoral and not the archtype of the faction, they would completely backflip to the old position and suddenly start pumping out a release every couple of months for the faction (Next box we are in, maybe this happens). I was just addressing the comment we are a vanilla with special rules, which is blatantly false at this point.

    Duos aren't a thing then? G: Sync isn't in Vanilla? Puppeteers aren't?

I get what you're trying to drive at, but up until the official announcement ALEPH was stated to be the same thing as Tohaa. They were both factions considered "too complex for a starter set".

Im not sure I understand what you are getting at. Bostria stated "Tohaa are not vanilla, they are a sectoral", I dont think anyone has ever said that Aleph is not a faction, they area sectoral (Proberbly before my time?). Im not saying they cant be in a starter set, im saying they are not vanilla which the post I originally stated was trying to argue.

The argument against Tohaa and ALEPH not being able to be in 2 player starters used to be specific to them having "advanced rules". It never had anything to do with them "being a Sectorial".

The two recent Operation sets are both Sectorial driven, albeit with the lists for those Sectorials being unavailable as of yet. With the way that they do the starter sets(rules are left out and profiles simplified for the purposes of learning), there is nothing preventing Tohaa or SEF from seeing a future starter set.

I almost feel like we're kind of talking past each other, as you've focused on one element(their faction being "considered" a Sectorial, effectively) while ignoring the other parts.

I think its more where not even talking about the same thing. You are talking about starter sets and sectorals and advanced rules, all of which I agree with, and I am talking about the isolated topic of if tohaa are a vanilla or sectoral army.

Right, because my statement that you initially replied to was cutting out a large chunk of context and a whole different conversation that frames the context of my replies.

It's important to remember that for a long, long time we've had it made clear to us the players:
Tohaa are a Vanilla army with Sectorial traits. They have the ability to make pseudo-Fireteams as part of their special rules but they cannot form "classic" Fireteams because of that trait. That was supposed to change at some point in the future with the introduction of an actual Sectorial for them.

First of all welcome to the new forum!

What you say would be really nice and fitting the fluff we have seen been developed so far, a talented spekulo been the main antagonist in the treason subplot and mentions of him in the Kurage campaign, unfortunately the aesthetic design of the Shasvastii starts at the end of the year....

That would be a nice box though.

I see where your coming at now, and 6 months ago bostria did change this, he said we arnt a vanilla with special rules, we are a sectoral with special rules, and that some time in the future we will see the Vanilla that tohaa belong to.

So, we've been told (well, not we, just some people) that it is designed to work similar to a Sectorial.
Meanwhile, it is presented as a Faction in the webpage, store, books, fluf... and we've been told that it is getting its first Sectorial (the Triumvirate) next year.

For now, every proof we have tells that Tohaa is indeed a Faction, not a Sectorial. A weird one, yes, but a Faction nontheless.

Until this changes (*), I'm feeling pretty safe saying Tohaa is a Faction.

(*) Koni has said that they are going to talk about Tohaa in the upcoming GenCon semminar, we'll see what happens there.

That seems like some shaky ground to stake a claim on.
