@Flipswitch I ordered a Pneumarch recently so I'll be looking forward to seeing how you finish painting this model. Looking good so far. How did you make the base the Pneumarch is attached on?
The bases I'm doing I use a mixture of things. Liquid Green stuff dried up and applied in chunks and spread aggressively to create a textured surface. I then use some of the AK interactive earth stuff to spread between that, and small bits of the GW texture mud in places (forgotten the name of this one sorry!). It creates a nice varied earth tone palette across my bases, so each base looks a little difference but as a group it looks pretty nice. I'll take a group picture close up once I've painted a few guys. :) The stones are just little stones from my garden and the wood stumps and bits are from Model Display Products. :)
Took some pictures while doing the base quickly for my Nexus. Some of the basing bits I use, not pictured are the slate pieces I use or small scale ruins that my drones have on their bases. :) I'll take some pics of them when I eventually get to them. First layer of spreading basing texture on the surface of the base in random clumps to create small elevation. Typically I do tree pieces in the first step here as they are quite prominent on the bases. Small spots of PVA glue and some stones to add some extra elements of basing. I then spread another type of texture medium in the pieces to change up the surface area of some bits. That gives some nice variation. Sometimes I'll dab over the first layer of texture in places to stop it looking segmented.
Slowly working on my next stage of black, taken a break to eat a ton of food with the family so slow progress while I've been unwell, but getting there! Will do my last layer highlights after a shower and then my edge highlighting, then I can paint the white-greys. :)
Slow progress for me, unfortunately I found out the window panes in the front of my house have rotten on the underside, so have had to pack a lot of my things away, combined with some (man)flu, my progress has been slower than usual. The vambraces, crotch armour and back spine are a bit brighter in person than it looks here, poor lighting and using my phone as usual! Still plenty of highlights to go. Not entirely happy with this guy so far, I just need to finish the edge highlights and then tidy up my regular layers, so he should be done soon enough. Not 100% on the orb just yet, I think it could do with either painting the cores in (sounds effort) or glazing it red for that evil artifact look. Thoughts? PS some encouragement be nice, morale a bit low on painting this guy at the moment, he looks messy.
I for one don't think he is messy at all. The model looks really nice right now and it will only increase in visual eye candy when you are finished with it.
Lol... You shitting me, dude? That guy looks like a boss. I'm going to take a picture and post the mess that is my pneumarch in this thread... hah hah hah. I've been actively avoiding posting the model because he looks so bad. This pneumarch, like the rest of your onyx army, looks amazing.
When I think of bad I don't see your Pneumarch in my head. Sure it is not up to par in your eyes but I'm sure it will be someday soon in the future.
Just keep working on it bud, get some smooth transitions and sharp highlights and itll pop sharpish. :) I'm taking a day or two break from my models to cleanse my mental palette, do the same if its getting to you!
Oh, I painted it back in November. It's definitely destined for the strip. I had just finished applying some weathering powder, and I thought I had just water in my airbrush to fix the powder in place, and it turns out I had sepia wash in there. Turns out weathering powder absorbs wash rather quickly. Either way, that pneumarch is boss, dude. I'm still jealous of your black to grey transitions. I'm gonna attempt it sometime in the near future- probably when I repaint my acontecimento.
Cheers bud, transitions aren't too bad, it just takes bit of time and mixing each colour. I stopped mixing on the light greys and probably should again to get them a bit smoother!
O helol so first the mini on butplug : yuo can go easy for stringer highlights and you can go for fluo paints glow .. or you may go for the orb from Event horizon - then use a lot of watered black taylor : funny ther is a lot of wrong with this min like a painted in hair and over all to thick paint coverage butt - you got the values right - if you highlight this corectly it will look good (not perfect but good ) i may over paint on photo to show wher to highlight or shade
Reading your posts is like understanding Koan mate, I love it. Did a sit down review of the Pneumarch over dinner tonight and happier with him now I've had some sleep. I'll get tidying him tomorrow and try to get him finished up. He's getting there! Then I'll crack on with two Umbra Legates.
With the way the Pneumarch's head is tilted, that incredibly strong OSL looks quite fitting. Kind of like he's trying not to blind himself, hahaha. I hope you don't take that as a criticism. I just thought it was funny :).
I don't think so. Your Pneumarch and his have a completely different color scheme. It would be difficult to get both of yours mixed up.
