So it obviously applies mostly to stuff like Smoke Grenades and Smoke Grenade Launchers. Question is, can you make a speculative Fire action onto the area and not particular enemy due to targetless trait of those weapons? Speculativee Fire sates clearly that: The user may make a single BS Attack against a target outside his LoF. so that would suggest that such an action is in fact invalid, even tho that is probably how smoke grenade launchers should be used. Am I getting something wrong? Does speculative fire always require face to face roll? Example in Speculative Fire wiki seems to suggest so
You can throw smoke where you want (with lof). You dont need enemies there. And without LoF using speculative (active turn). You make FtF rolls using Smoke when you use it as Special Dodge (blocking enemys LoF; If you dont block enemy LoF youll make Normal rolls). In active, if you throw smoke on any enemy youll make Normal rolls if enemy choose Dodge. <br>Una ranita iba caminando...
The rule only makes mention of making a BS Attack and examples are not exhaustive. Also consider that when you declare the Speculative Fire, it will not be a Face to Face until your opponent has declared a skill that directly affects you or is a Dodge-style skill. You will need Speculative Fire in order to stick the Smoke template down if you can't see the point in which you want to put the circular template's Blast Focus.
The point to remember is that Targetless attacks still actually have a Target: it's just a point on the ground. It's only things like 'White Noise' that don't actually have a Target at all.
Depends on the type of Grenade or Grenade Launcher, Yes you can combine Targetless and Speculative fire as Inane.imp mentioned, you simply choose a point on the table as "target" for the attack, however, not all grenades and grenade launchers have the Targetless trait while all of them have Speculative Fire, in the case of a normal grenade you would have to choose an enemy trooper as target for the speculative fire, but with Smoke, Nimbus, Eclipse and other types of non-lethal grenades or launchers you can find the Targetless Trait, but the targetless trait is not in grenades that cause damage, like EM or normal grenades, it's a thing where you must look for the weapon trait, but in the case you described you can combine the effects of both.
Would winning a f2f roll while dodging against the speculative fire done with smoke grenade launcher with smoke template covering aroing model lead to nulifying smoke template all together or only the aroing model dodging out of the template? Assuming that shooting model would pass the speculative fire test on its own, just with lower roll than dodge roll.
Smoke doesn't directly interact with the dodging model, this situation can not be a face to face. Additionally, there is not sequencing to Face to Face rolls, regardless of what the Dodging model could have chosen to do, it wouldn't affect the Face to Face rolls of the other AROing models since all rolls are taken simultaneously and the face to face itself is triggered individually.
Which means that you can: move in LoF of Trooper Trooper Dodges BS Attack with Smoke Ammunition. Place the Smoke where the Trooper will be if they pass their Dodge
