But if you're shooting then it's better to use the heavy shotgun with better range bonuses, damage, and template option. Which might leave the Heavy pistol a bit superfluous depending on what the trench hammer actually does..
Probably went with a rule of cool, since it sounda better than just pistol and adds to the cost. Though pitty no 2x autocanon profile, mini would look awesome! Not too interested in 2 shoot weapon on platform that cant impose any mods or counter modifiers to begin with. He is praying to get lucky with his shoot, and if enemy is in fire team, good luck to you with same ammount of shoots.
They did mention the hammer is a throwing weapon, so you'd be throwing it on 18s, still making the shotgun on 19s and ignoring cover ARM a better option. Maybe it has higher burst or a different range band than the shotty? I'm gonna agree there, don't really see myself running the HRL guy a lot just to get wrecked by your run of the mill camo sniper I had the thought that the Ratnik might get to Haris, like the Daiyokai or the Kirza, in which case the profile would become a lot more tempting
the ratnik is certainly well advised to shoot the shotgun against an assaulting martial arts specialist. Should the enemy survive, the ratnik's only chance of survival is to get lucky in the FTF close combat roll. The shotgun armed Ratnik's heavy pistol does not have AP. Even if it did, one would expect that a thunder hammer is better in CC than an AP heavy pistol. If it is not, there is little reason to give it that obscene size.
I had hoped for 2xrocket launcher, but I don't think that the single rocket launcher profile is useless. The Molotok version is appealing just as well. I wonder whether I will be able to work wonders with magnets and HMGs that I have from the spec ops blisters. maybe I can alternate profiles while owning only one Ratnik. I dont think I will use the ratnik all that often anyway. I like to play with lists that have many troopers, preferably camouflaged.
2xHRL would inflate their cost too much imo, and HRL is already 2 burst so its already make sense for 2 pods Ratnik. Also, i don't think HRL profile useless either, it was obviously geared for anti-hordes and i can see that they'll excel against those annoying kurwa metas by spamming alot of templates. But i must agree that Molotoks is much more interesting (especially against my TAG heavy meta), and it'll be a fitting partner for T2 Blackjack. Bet it was EXP template, or AP+DA (or just AP) blast throwable CCW with EXP hit mode.
well the Ratnik's CC actually sucks. So I reckon the Hammer is a +6 0-8 DA or EXP shot with B1 and a +6 to hit in CC (hopefully normal rolls) this would make the hammer effective in CC despite the low CC of the base profile, the DA/EXP at B1 would then also make for a sorta "multi-HSG" style profile
I don't see hammer being that good in cc. 8pts camo antipode with cc 20 and hammer that has +6? It's critting on 14+ ...yea, something is telling me they ain't making this antipode better than a lot of cc specialist which cost way more, lol. Also another usefull trait molotok profle has is, he can go in suppression, has B3 in ARO and imposes penalty to enemy of -3. HRL one has 1 shot and no penalty, way way less usefull as ARO. And molotok wants to be midfield, to begin with, so there is not that much issuse with supression fire range.
A camo CC unit that hits on 26 unopposed thats tied to another platform for a combo of 25 pts and stuck in a solo sectorial, shrug I see it
How does the Ratnik compared to the Blackjack? Which would you use in generic Ariadna? I much prefer the T2 sniper Blackjack over the Ratnik. But honestly, I can see just going with the Veteran Kazaks over either. Speaking of which, what exactly is the Ratnik bringing to the table that a Veteran Kazak can't do for cheaper?
Not really sure, especially in vet kazak end up in a link team, which we can all bet he will. Though first I will wait to see how rest of sectorial ends up. He is not gonna be auto take for me, nor probably tournament pieces, but for a friendly games, why not, model looks nice enough. though I am also not sure what tankhunters bring. Wanna bring someone to take down that TAG. Well, also might as well take vet kazak with ap hmg in link. And there are antipodes... Lt tankhunter costs 1swc, you can get 3 kazaks for his points, let enemy guess who is your lt, or have scout lt 0swc etc. sOmething tells me that TAK will be SWC hungry, so it's not like you really wanna throw it on lt when there are plenty of cheaper options out there. He can bring AUtocanon, nice enough, but still, I would rather bring B5 BS 16 ap hmg than B2 BS12 autocanon, and gamble. I do doubt that you will be able to include tankhunters in some link teams or harris, though that would make em much more interesting to bring.
Yeah, I don't really feel the HRL Ratnik. I think he should have 2 HRLs even with higher cost it would be worth it. For 44 points and 2 SWC rolling two dices in active isn't very attractive. The 2 molotoks profile is expensive but with 5 dices it should be.
Certainly 2 HRLs would be more optimal. But the overall idea is consistent with Haqq al-Fasid, it also has a single HRL, costs 2 SWC and 45pts.
It never hurts to have a higher burst, but I don't think it'll be a particular problem here. I think the proper tactic will be to eliminate ARO pieces that could challenge a barebones HRL - link teams, units in SF, TR bots - with other units - and TAK certainly won't suffer from a lack of proper tools here - and then move in the Ratnik, using HRL to eliminate troopers that can respond only using Burst 1.
unless the trench hammer works in a really interesting manner.....I dont think Id rate a Ratnik over a Blackjack. Blackjack has a weapn for every range and warband defence built in, its SF capable and its almost as tough. That being said, Blackjacks are AVA2 in vanilla, so i could see 2 T2 snipers +1 2x Molotok ratniks being a build to mirror the trip blackjack in vanilla
Also (And I realise this is pretty small compared to everything else in the release) I am super happy to see minesweeper on a model that is likely to be in a position to actually use it effectively... I mean if nothing else, netrods beware.
More survivable unit with more range of weaponry with ability to not suffocated to death after their second wound roll and power of taking the last laught after their last ping of wound by blasting your enemy to bits. Oh and minesweeper? Mine sweeper. In short: different unit with different advantage.
The name of the trench hammer just makes me think of a sci-fi e-tool for some reason, I wonder if lets them spend an action to dig in similar to sapper.
Makes me think more along the lines of Trench Gun or Trench Knife, but a hammer. If anything it's pretty low-tech sounding to me since "trenches" are usually associated with World War One.
