Hi guys, i just ran some tournaments and matches with Corregidor with more or less success (successfull in escalation league but pretty weak in tournaments). After buidling some lists, Correg seems to miss some parts other sectorials have. Especially three points make me go crazy: - why does the Gecko has a movement of 4-4 instead of 6-4? The model is amazing and fatality this season is pretty awsome but these slow guys often don't make sense in any list. - why do we have 3 Core Links to choose but non free swc Haris option? A mobile brigada Haris link would be awsome? (even Orcs have a Haris option). - all others factions have at least 2 baggage drones. Correg only has one. Often a huge disadvantage in missions armypoints matter. - and of course the everlasting theme: please CB give us resculped Morans ;-) Give me your thoughts.
The Geckos suggestion might be threading the "increase cost too much" line, the other points have been mentioned mostly. The limit on the Baggage remote might be because of access to the other S4 remotes, but I agree they should switch the AVA of the 8 points remotes so there are 2 baggages and 1 mimetic like on the other armies.
Geckos seem to be more along the lines of "HI with extra wound", although TAG-specific interactions still apply. Yeah, I know this isn't helping.
Geckos are different to a conventional TAG in more ways that just their MOV. Their S, their weapons, their ARM, etc. You are comparing Apples and Oranges. I could be wrong, but I do not believe Corregidor is alone in a lack of a SWC-free Haris. This is not a problem, IMO. Our crap-tastic Lt options (including the very unusual 1 SWC Alguacil Lt) are a vastly bigger problem! Orcs seemed to gain Haris purely because they are the joke of PanOceania: they have no niche and no one uses them. Haris seems to have been an attempt to change this, but it does not seem to have made a difference. It could also be argued it was a way to shoehorn a Varuna unit into other sectorials, which is also not an issue Nomads have. I agree on REM AVA. It strikes me as plain weird that Corregidor has lower AVA than basically everyone else. That said, I do not think it would make any difference to my lists even if they did adjust it.
I haven't thought much on what Corregidor should have added. I think the main thing would be work on the various Cores other than Jaguars. Wildcats probably don't need the SWC for their Haris, the required profile and generally high SWC is probably enough. One option could be to make another Spitfire Haris profile that only costs 1.5 SWC to encourage a certain type of Haris to be made. That way you can't just stick the Lt. in, protect him with a LFT and stick a HRL in to use the link bonus. But would that be too good for 2 SWC instead of 2.5 anyways? I dunno. It might be a cool list element to have access to, a Lt. with their compliment. Jaguar Haris should not have the SWC reduced. Maybe even raise it to 1. Other than that I would work on the Intruder profiles other than HMG and MSR. ADHL for no SWC on the Lt. would be cool. An AHD or KHD instead of the regular hacking device would make it a much more useable profile. A MULTI rifle might be kind of pricey but it would be super cool. Maybe it could drop Grenades to get the price down. And I know this is unpopular but MSR profiles on Moran or Bandit would be awesome. But that's just a personal wishlist. Finally Alguacilles and really all those basic line troops could be a lot more interesting.
1) Xeodrons and Overdron are also 4-4 Move, as is the Anaconda, probably to keep points costs down. Geckos are still awesome tough bully boys with a specialist at their creamy centre. 2) So you have more Haris options than FRRM, USARF, NCA, Shasvaasti, Onyx, JSA, and MO Players, and of those only Onyx get a (very restrictive) 0 SWC Haris option. Whats the problem here? 3) This one is weird, though I'm not sure it's as huge a disadvantage as you say, especially once you get to 300 point game. These missions are often won without any baggage. 4) Agreed
Corregidor seems to be lacking a hook these days. The best models are all pretty independent for the most part, so you can run the best stuff it has to offer in Vanilla for the most part without losing out on much. The increased AVA is generally on things too expensive to take any more of in the first place and the unique models are cool but... well, no one is tossing out their Interventors for Valerya. It's not that it can't compete, its just that you limit yourself pretty significantly for little gain. There's a lot of things like the Iguana losing access to great hackers to use its repeater that just don't pay off and a lot of the mercs granted to Vanilla are pretty great. The big draws seem to be Lupe, Massacre, and McMurrough. I'm not sure any of them are super compelling. The important thing though is just that more than needing more, Corregidor needs something unique. There's some cool lists like the Mobile Brigade and TMNGeckos, but at 200 points they lose a lot of luster. I'm not sure what exactly needs to be added; probably something involving the Wildcasts I suppose, but there's a definite lack of something special in the army.
I second the free wildcat harris, that would help a lot. One could also think of duo link teams on the AD troops, not sure how that interacts with order expense, but double helcat or tomcat could bring them closer to the action.
Corregidor is fine. They're very strong, they just always were very strong and didn't get much with HSN3 because they didn't need to. But Bandits, Jaguars, Morans, Intruders, and Tomcats are all fantastic troops that in any faction would be highly sought-after, they're just more direct and less exciting in the sense of Bakunin's cool uber-hacking and weirdness, and Tunguska's new shinies. If I changed anything to Corregidor it'd be to add in a relatively elite MI "Sergeant Major" type profile who can join other links, just to make them a bit more flexible and interesting, as Corregidor doesn't have any mixed links and that's a shame. Not any kind of really awesome power boost but more of a flavour builder. 4-2, 16, 13, 11, 14, 3, 0, 1, 2 Number 2, V: Dogged, Veteran L1 Knife, Assault Pistol, Combi-Rifle + HFT Knife, Assault Pistol, Combi-Rifle + HFT (Lieutenant)
Most of the good stuff on Corregidor is the same on Vanilla, but how do you take most of the best units out of a faction and give it a Core? Can't make the Core too good when you're basically just missing out on cheap Impetuous smoke and HD+.
Well they are missing out on more than that. No proper full on MBT (ARM 8 and stuff). No TO Camo, no top level hackers, no ODD, no elite HI etc. Like, Corregidor is good, but it's exactly as you say, their best stuff tends to be solo troops you can take in Vanilla. So how to make the Sectoral more engaging? Well Wildcats are pretty fantastic IMO, as is the Alguacile link with Lupe, but these days they're quite unusual in the lack of mixed link options, which is why I'd potentially suggest something that does that for them.
There are more sectorials that lack a proper, full-on MBT. Frack, there are sectorials that lack any TAG. Therefore Corregidor isn't alone there - and as experience shows, can live without it.
Sure, I'm just saying it's something they don't have. It might be something you don't really care they don't have, but they don't have it. I like to run TAGs in Sectorals personally, because of cheap fireteam order bases. If I could take a Lizard in Corregidor, I would (don't really think that the Iguana is that good personally).
I run Geckos in my Corregidor pretty often. And the Iguana from time to time. It is not like Corregidor has no TAGs. They just lack an MBT. But they have a number of other cool things :) Come to think about, none of my Sectorials has an MBT (CJC, QK and HB).
HD+ and Morlocks are things they would pretty much always play, losing out on that is how Vanilla can have an advantage playing the same stuff. They lose a ton of options but that just makes them a sectorial. Most other things wouldn't make them much stronger they already have such good stuff.
I don't think anyone is arguing that they shouldn't lose a ton of options. The question is what do they gain for it?
I totally agree. Of Course neerly every sector misses somethin. I have just not found the playstyle of corregidor. What is THE thing they have? - hacking? not really, nomads vanillia is way better - beat stick? even McMurrough is really awsome, he is the only option i see. Perhaps deadpool in a core link? - lots of camo because of increased ava of Intruders? why should i run 3 or more? Ltd and HMG or MSR perhaps. But to expensive to use more - what is the sense of the airborn troop ava. is their any use playing 3 or more? don't get me wrong. I love Correg for the fluff and they truly have some nice Options but just a bit is missing without nowing what it can be.
They don't have a gimmick. You beat your opponent by having more power in every category except for their gimmick then outplaying them in basic tactics. I think they are in a place where they can get more but that's the style I play. In WW2 games I use U.S. Infantry. In WH fantasy I use Empire. So I'd really hate to see an addition like Riot Grrls or Su Jian that dominates their play style.
Sectorial that lets you use a fireteam and still bring intruders is almost a gimmick because they are pretty darned good.
