Hello, playing only Haqq (V, HB, QK) up to now, I do also own a small bunch of (mostly unassembled) Nomad Minis. Now I want to dive into the thrilling cool waters of playing Nomads and would appreciate your advice concerning the adding of miniatures in order to get this playable in 200-300 pts range (for the moment mostly fun- and maybe demo-games). So far I have: Old Nomads Starterbox (3 Alquaciles, Securitate, Zero, Mobile Brigada) Wildcat Spitfire Riot Grrls Spitfire Clockmaker Interventor 2 I also own Scarface&Cordelia. What else could be added as a good start?
Ummm... I don't know yet, to be honest. On the long run I'd prefer a style of playing that differs in a signifcant way from Haqqi's.
StarCo is a decent gateway out of Haqq. Alternatively, REMs and hackers sound like a good start though. They're something that Nomads do particularly well. Lunokhod or Tsyklons, Zoe and Piwell, Intruder HMG, Jags or Morlocks. Proxy your Haqq REMs in the near term.
If you're going Uberfalls I'd recommend Morlocks over Jags: Morlock + Uberfalls let's you manage your extremely Impetuous better.
I thought about this in my first post. I don't think that's true: if you're buying the Corregidor and Tunguska starters you already get a Hellcat and a Kriza. Ultimately it's usually more important that a Hellcat looks like a Hellcat then that it has the right weapon. And for the Kriza, the HMG is the standout profile. The Intruder MSR can be purchased as a single, or proxied by the Intruder HMG. I think it's useful to have, but unless it's easy to get a hold of you can replicate the options it gives you very easily.
Jaguars if you want more orders. Morlocks for WB. Jaguars are more comparable to Alguacilles than Morlocks. Moran and Tomcats are pretty vital units to the Nomads experience as well. If I made a custom Nomads starter it would look like this, with Jaguars to be the expected expansion. Nomads ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 5 1 1 INTRUDER HMG, Grenades / Pistol, CCW. (1.5 | 42) INTERVENTOR Hacker Lieutenant (Hacking Device Plus) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 25) TOMCAT Engineer Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 22) MORAN (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, CrazyKoalas (2) / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 22) LUNOKHOD Heavy Shotgun, Heavy Flamethrower, D-Charges, CrazyKoalas (2) / Electric Pulse. (0 | 25) MORLOCK Chain Rifle, Smoke Grenades / Assault Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 8) 2.5 SWC | 144 Points Open in Infinity Army
I agree. It's not a must, but if you can find someone to split it I would do it. The CJC starter though, is not something I would recommend to someone starting Nomads unless they were going to do focus on Corregidor. Too many other more useful models to get first.
I use the MSR more often but the HMG is easier to use both in list construction and during the game, so I'd consider it the better starter model.
Can you explain how the Morlocks help to manage Ex. Impetuous? I would imagine the Jag would be more useful since they contribute an extra order to the pool you can use to cancel the Impetuous move. Not efficient but it's something. Or do you just use the Morlock to escort the Uberfalls with smoke?
@daboarders Caledonia primer discusses it in more detail. But basically you use the Morlocks to activate and Smoke prior to you spending the Uberfalls Extremely Impetuous order. You use them to manage it by order of activation and mutual smoking. The troop that won't suicide activates first and Smokes the other's advance. Jags can't do this because they only drop Smoke after the Uberfall has had the opportunity to use it's Extremely Impetuous order.
Gonna echo those REMs, Tsyklons and Lunokhods are practically Nomad unique. Funny enough every time I go Vanilla I tend to lean heavily toward Corregidor. With these new Tunguska units I would at least have a gander at them. They have a few new units that have the potential to turn some unit roles upside down (Hecklers, Hollow-Men, and Securitates). Also, recommend Jaguars as well for what they bring to the table.
